Saw this video about the 2.7 oil pump driven by a belt.
Is it still this way in 6G Rangers with the 2.7?
Is it also the same in 2.3 5G and 6G?

The 5G is gear driven

Beat by that much
I didn't really want 4x4, but it was the only way to get the 2.7.
So, maybe it's wise for me to stick to the 2.3 RWD for a 6G and save about $6k.

Yeah, that belt is going to need to be replaced sometime and with a 4x4 how accessible is going to be. Are you going have to pull the motor or at least raise it up to drop the pan? Just more unwanted expense when at least a chain could have been used.

Well, it seems it's not easily replaced on RWD either, as you have to tear down the whole front of the engine.

I wouldn’t let one video on the internet about an engine with an unknown history of maintenance scare me away. There is much more anecdotal evidence that the 2.7 is a reliable engine.

Love how ford keeps reinventing the wheel when it needs to be left the f*** alone.
Funny thing about that is... they don't change what NEEDS to be changed.

2 decades later ford still can't make a decent v-motor cam synchro.. and these days the motor needs to be removed to replace them ?‍♀

The stupid wet belt and inevitable cam synchro headaches are why I bought a 2.3 bronco.

The good news is that the oil pump belts have been out since 2018 (or earlier in some form), and there are no widespread failures. In fact, I haven't heard of these failing at all. The 1.0 ecoboost is having an oil pump drive failure, but that is on the wet belt tensioner and not the belt directly. The 2.7 and 5.0 engines don't have tensioners to fail. And none of these engines are built to last past 200,000 miles, so we should keep our expectations as such.
