Two entirely different use cases. The major issue with the Ecoblue application appears to be use of a wet belt for cam timing. And any belt wear particles/pieces getting into oil sump. This is a completely different use than driving an oil pump. Much higher loads and tensioning. Even dry timing belts have a shorter replacement recommendation than chains or gears. Usually in the 60K to 100K range. The oil pump belt is basically non tensioned will a much smaller relatively constant load. So, wear is minimal.
That's true, but dry timing belts are at least "usually" designed to be relatively easy to access and replace. The wet timing belts and in particular the oil pump belt have been buried inside the engine as if they were chains- which would be fine, but they don't appear to have the longevity of chains, or even what was initially promised by Ford. And these same engines also have a belt driven oil pump as well. I imagine conditions which affect the timing belt material must to some degree also affect the oil pump belt, albeit as you say it is less loaded.

Also I don't think wear is what you would normally consider "wear" in terms of chain stretch or gear backlash, these things are literally coming apart, this has been blamed on fuel in the oil attacking the rubber, but some oil dilution is pretty much a fact of life in any direct injected turbo charged engine, petrol or diesel. Combined with the ridiculously long oil change intervals which seem to be common in Europe I don't see how this can be avoided. Diesel engines now also have the issue of extra diesel injected to heat up the DPF during DPF burns.

I can see where you are coming from but due to the exorbitant prices we are charged for cars over here, and because the mostly hotter / drier climate - so they don't rust out, we tend to hang onto to them longer than say people do on average in the US. So I can see it becoming an issue over here.
