What is the little metal tube (the one plugged into the end of the rubber tubing) called and where did you get it ?
Just a piece of 1/2" aluminum tubing left over.

- push pan gasket on with locating pins, has some kind of 1/8 in wide seal bead made into it, Install 8 mm and 13 mm stud bolts
hand tight. Tightened bolts with 1/4 & 3/8 ratchet, from feel of tightness from loosing IMO torque wrench is overkill. 18 ft lbs= 236 inch
lbs, trust my feel more than hard to read Harbor Freight torque wrench.
FYI PPE instructions are 8 ft-lbs or 96 inch lbs, not 18ft-lbs. The 18ft-lbs refers to the drain plug. You don't want these little bolts snapping the next time you have to change the filter.

Well I received my PPE shallow pan and happened to pickup my new rear differential cover from Ford Performance Parts at the Ford Dealer and I spoke to a service manager about installing my PPE pan. I was expecting a $200-300 bill, but he said $135 to install as I was buying the filter, pan gasket and fluid from their parts dept.

I have to say this was a no brainer, as I don't have to deal with the fluid and pan replacement and the best part, it should keep my warranty in tact as it will be done by a qualified technician.
I spoke to them about my MBS Fitzstick and it seems to be a non-issue for them.

The ULV was $8.49 a quart, the filter was $66.38, the pan gasket was $43.48. I chose to do the pan gasket so if there was a leak the old gasket wouldn't be the reason.

I did my transmission fluid, filter, MBS dipstick, and PPE pan last week. Really helped to see all of the forum posts about the process. I couldn't find a consistent answer for how much replacement ULV I would need. I drained 7 1/2 quarts including the filter, and it took me 8 1/2 quarts to get the level right with the new pan and the new dipstick (with the transmission in park, truck running, at 195 degrees).

I only have 18k miles after 3 years. The fluid was dark but was visually clear and smelled fine, which isn't surprising given the low miles. The magnets had the normal amount of metallic goo and the filter looked fine, but I still replaced it. Took me maybe 3-4 hours going slow.

I usually do all the fluids in the first 5-10k to get an early inspection for anything unusual and get rid of any break-in metal particles. The rear diff was filled low from the factory and was darker than usual with some flakes in the fluid (not bad, but glad I changed it). The front diff and transfer case were fine. I used 75w110 Redline for the diffs and D6 Redline for the transfer case and ULV for the transmission. I'm also going to start towing soon so wanted to have fresh fluids.

Thanks for reply. I just installed my MBS stick and have 14,000 on mine just curious if I should do a fluid and filter change now.

My plan is to drain and fill (no filter replacement) every 30k now that I have a drain plug, although 50k is probably fine if you're not towing a lot.

Thanks for this. I just installed the MBS stick and PPE pan at 70k. Oil looked semi worn but not burnt. Replaced for maintenance. No issues. Towed 3 times short distances at 5000k or less. Livernois 91-93 tune for the past 10k. Been great truck so far. Just a set of tires and pads/rotors all around.

- a suspension member has hole it top and will swallow your 8 mm bolt and/ or socket if you drop them.
This is too true, and I found out the hard way!

Does anyone know the part number to a replacement pan bolt? I've tried fishing the bolt out with a magnet, but no luck. I also haven't been able to find any part numbers for a replacement pan bolt.

Please help!

Amazon has them:

The trans is Ford and GM developed so likely the same bolts but you should be able to examine the existing bolts to determine the size that they are.

Today I installed the PPE cast aluminum extended capacity transmission pan. Its a very nice high quality peice and I look forward to having the drain plug. I took my pneumatic brake bleeder and sucked out 5.75 ish quarts, then removed the stock pan. Ended up putting in a little under 8 quarts to get the dipstick back to the correct level. When i initially checked the dipstick it was at (3) when the engine was cold so i tried to fill it back to that exact spot. Also installed the B&M trans dipstick, woah are they proud of that at $200 for a couple fittings and a piece of hose. Made marks on the B&M dipstick with a knife to matchup the numbers (3), (4) and (5). I was surpised by how dark brown the ATF was after only 21k miles, so was glad to add the new fluid. I should have done the trans filter, but I didnt have one, ill install it around 40k or 50k miles.

I enlarged the torque sequence picture from the install instructions and labeled it for the different bolts. "HS" means Heat Shield & "LB" means Long Bolt. They are same length.

Then I taped the pick to the bottom of the pan to ease following the sequence. Some of the corner bolts were a PITA to get at. Also, I had no torque wrench with small enough range to hand tightened with prayer not to strip or break them.
