New transmission at 17750 miles

So just got a call from my dealer service advisor stating that Ford is going to put a new transmission in my 03/22 build with 17750 miles. It has had the first two phases of the TSB done ( reflash and valve body clean and then replacement). Still had 3-4-5 shift issues so brought it back in for my scheduled appointment this morning. They have to order the transmission and whatever else that’s needed. I’ll get my truck back tomorrow morning and will arrange to get it back in once everything comes in for the job. Works out great seeing we’re hauling the camper out on Sunday afternoon. Have to say that I’m a bit impressed with how the process has gone. Didn’t have to lean on anyone to get things done. I just went along with the steps for the TSB.

I'm envious it was so smooth. I just made a post about needing a new transmission at 64k outside of the manufacturer warranty, overall process will have been about 2 months if they can get it re-installed without any hiccups. Nice to have access to a competent dealer

Dropped it off at dealer this morning. Should have it back by Wednesday ?. Also asked them to look over the driveshaft slip yoke seeing it will be out for the transmission swap.

Mine was built 3/22 and is developing shifting issues when it's cool. Once warmed up it's not bad. Only 5k miles but I am thinking it needs to be looked at but by the time I get to the dealers its warm and shifting fine.

Here’s a hint. Drop it off for your appointment the night before. That way they’ll get to experience it cold.

Mine has had a rough shift when cold since new - it is usually only one or two shifts and always seems to be 1-2 or 1-3 (depending on which it decides to do). I haven't had other shifting issues and I'm at 46k and 5+ years now. I think that is kind of a known/working as designed thing - it does not shift well when cold. I think that is why they put the "cooler" on it (which helps warm it up faster).

Does the OP and other experiencing tranny symptoms have anything beside the factory tune? Do those of us with an aftermarket tune suffer fewer tranny issues due to a different shifting strategy?

Hmm, my ranger was built in the same month/year and had 16.5k miles when my transmission was showing signs of issues.

Mine has had a rough shift when cold since new - it is usually only one or two shifts and always seems to be 1-2 or 1-3 (depending on which it decides to do). I haven't had other shifting issues and I'm at 46k and 5+ years now. I think that is kind of a known/working as designed thing - it does not shift well when cold. I think that is why they put the "cooler" on it (which helps warm it up faster).

This is also why it isn't a good idea to use any other fluid other than one that meets the ULV specs. Any thicker and you'll end up with rough shifts all the time instead of just when it is cold.

No tune on mine , bone stock. Shifting strategy doesn’t prevent the CDF drum bushing from migrating. The updated CDF drum has a machined in step to prevent migration. When I would drive in tow haul it was less noticeable. Maybe tunes mask the issue until they can’t?? I wondered about the first step of the TSB being a reflash and if they were trying to mask symptoms with that

THAT is crazy. ? I'm glad they're doing it for you. Just so odd. You should have the updated drum. You'd think it would only require, at worse... a new valve body to be up and running again.

Why's the whole thing toast. That's nuts. Not confidence inspiring.
