I have seen, very briefly (too brief to get a photo of it), a red warning light on my dashboard just above the P R D S shifter display, to the right of the seatbelt/0 light and left of the outside temperature display. This light does not illuminate when the ignition is turned on like the other warning lights. It resembles, as best I can recall, a pair of gears with either a wrench or an exclamation point in between the gears. In all the instances, I was on flat terrain, in 2H, traveling about 70 - 75 mph with the adaptive cruise control on. The light goes out after about a second. There is nothing in the manual about this light, and no threads on this forum mention it. Any ideas what it is trying to tell me?

Is it the TPMS light, that is an exclamation inside a tire that could easily look like a gear?

No, it is a red light. I have looked online in various sites but have not found anything like it.

It's the collision alert, look like this?

1000005503.png

You'll get it if somebody switches lanes abruptly in front of you and kicks the collision ? alert into action, even if it doesn't alarm if it sees you coming up on somebody too fast, say somebody merging in on an on ramp and it brakes to slow down and maintain your preset distance that indicator lights up and I'm quite sure it's red

That is possible, as I haven't gotten a good look at it, but this doesn't occur when I am close to a vehicle ahead of me. I get warnings from the collision alert system (but no braking action) by way of a large rectangular warning in the center display of the dash. I am wondering if it has anything to do with short periods of manual acceleration while in adaptive cruise control, like if I put my foot in it to go around somebody.

It is a relatively small red symbol. Not one of those.

Possible Symbols: as a ref only that are red, that have the (!)
Note this is just via Google, since this is an oddball and a way to pinpoint what it is.

Well, if it’s not one of those, it has to be the Ford version of this…

;)

I hope you figure it out.

How about this one

It is definitely red. I will keep a camera handy for the next time it happens. I suppose there is no way to get the OBDII codes without a scanner...

Do you drive in Select mode and shift gears “manually” using the +/- button? My thinking here is that if you are, maybe it’s a warning to shift gears. Just a guess.

You know I’m not going to get any sleep tonight if this doesn’t get solved. ;)
