Last night, I tripped the Panic Alarm on the Key Fob for the hundredth time.

I said, no more, determined to find a way to stop it from being accidentally pushed. I also wanted a solution that I could back out if I sold the truck, so no glue. The Fob upper, button cover, comes off with prying just like the battery cover.

Taking a large paper clip and cutting and bending it into a “C” shape with the dimensions to fit the opening. I made it slightly oversize so that it would squeezed slightly to get it under both tabs. The slight “spring” in a paperclip holds it in place. When I press the Alarm button, it does not move at all. I consider my problem solved. Hope this helps someone else that is tired of repeatedly silencing the honking car in the garage.

Just get Forscan, and either disable the alarm or set it to require a double push. I believe the setting is in the BCM module. I have mine set to double push and have never set it off accidentally. No disassemble required and you can do lots of other neat things with Forscan.

This looks like a fairly simple fix for folks not interested or comfortable changing things using Forscan. And, it’s free - bonus!

I’m not sure my keyed fob comes apart the same way as the push button start version. Has anyone done this or something similar to their keyed fob?

Love it. I don't have FORSCAN (would like to get it at some point) but I do have paperclips!

I like your MacGiver approach and you shaped your clip to greater precision than many aftermarket mods!

I admire your workmanship, but did that in Forscan like many others. I set my off at a rest stop at 3 am while everyone including me was trying to sleep. I was so startled it took me a good 10 seconds to realize what had happened and turn it off.

I looked into Forscan, but as it requires you to program via PC and not MAC (my only computer), my previously bought paperclip was a cheaper solution for me. Others with a PC might find the Forescan route better.

I put up with 5 years of the alarm going off on my 2019 Lariat. Every time I went inside a store and sat down the alarm would go off if in my pocket. The annoying part is when it would go off you couldn't just hit the button to turn it off, you had to get within 50 ft of the vehicle to disable the alarm. What I finally did was put a stiff piece of plastic over the alarm on the FOB and put electrical tape over the plastic. Still works but you have to push it hard. Wish I'd thought of it sooner.

There are supposedly ways to run it on MAC, but it requires a certain version of IOS and certain (newer) hardware configurations. Or, you could run a windows VM inside IOS.

Here's my rant: I am in IT. Apple says It just works. Well, I beg to differ. Try to integrate a MAC into a windows network. You'll be screaming to the clouds that you're going to dig up Steve Jobs so you can kick his ass. I know, I know, I'm a windows fanboi. Not really, I don't worship at the alter of MS, but unless you're in a graphics/art organization then I just don't see the need. My wife is an architect, so she runs CAD on windows but uses Ipads to carry her work around cause it's easier to deal with a touch screen, and Apple seems to do a decent job of that... but I don't provide her tech support. She's got to call our nephew, I ain't got time for dat.

YOU ARE DA MAN!!!!!!!!!

I've always hated this fob just because of the ease of accidently setting off the panic alarm while it is on my pocket. Kept thinking that I needed to do something about it. Never did.

The past two weeks or so it seems like I am on a roll. Everytime I move stupid alarm goes off. Just did it yet again a few minutes ago. After going from 0 to angry in 1 second flat I said "That is it!" Jumped on this forum. Searched fobs and boom! Saw your post.

I am a happy camper!!! You could now hit the panic button with a freaking hammer and nothing happens. OP, if you were here right now I would totally hand you a beer. You are absolutely da man.

Thank you for posting this. Seriously.

Been almost a month since I MacGyver'd my key fob as per the Op's post. And since then.... not a single alarm! Zero, zilch, nada, goose egg.

Life be good.
