All I could do was laugh, talk about perfectly planned obsolescence, although, the laughing ended when I had to pay for the new one!

Ford nailed that one, maybe it has a built in sensor that fails the battery when the warranty expires.

Needless to say I did not buy a Motorcraft battery, the parts guy asked "ASS" yes I said, he goes "oh, that requires a AGM battery" I got the bigger battery, it fit in the tray fine, but the blanket did not fit well, I may try to get the right one.

What I did find interesting is how much different it runs and shifts, better actually... I think?

Also, he said that a non AGM battery wont last a month if the ASS is active, I guess excessive start/stop with heavy draws when it's off kills them, my ASS is disabled, but I do prefer a AGM over a standard lead acid battery. That sounds funny, my ass is disabled:crackup:

How much was the Motorcraft? I just bought an AGM from the blue oval for my wife's 20 Escape and it didn't really raise my eyebrows too much. My Midtronics tester has just condemned the battery in my Ranger with the dreaded 'replace battery' after testing but I'm putting it off until the fall.

Fitz, now is the perfect time for a nice test. This time around unplug the BMS sensor and see how long the battery lasts.

I'll bet the battery lasts longer.

Add an onboard BatteryMinder Desulfator and it will go significantly longer.

My battery lasted over 4 years but I replaced it with a bigger cranking AMP AGM. I wanted my ASS to work as with it, I average 26MPH overall and that is mostly city driving. I do disable for bad traffic like I-25 at 5. So far I am pretty happy with the replacement.

Mine in my 2019 died at 30 months and replaced under warranty. I now have the on-board desulfator, a NOCO 5 amp maintainer, the ASS disabled in Forscan along with the charge percentage set to 95%. Unusually runs at about 14.4 volts when running. Still get the occasional battery warning, if I don't put the maintainer on often enough.

Being retired, most of my trip are very short, sometimes just a mile or two. Also may sit for a day or two at a time. All the always-on electronics in these new vehicles are really hard on the batteries.

I didn't get a Motorcraft, in fact, I dont know what brand it was, but it was $240 for the bigger battery, but he said they were about the same price and most models that show two sizes, will take either size, sometimes you have to bend a tab in the battery tray.

I disabled the ASS in Forscan back when I got the truck, now I should adjust the charging rate!

My 2020 4x4 gets up to 28 (almost 29 (28.7) on the highway at 50-55mph), and around 24 in town. But I have found a lot of that has to do with how well trained your transmission shift patterns are, and how heavy your foot is..

I get 24 all the time and average between 25-26 except when traveling longer distances. I have seen 28 even with stretches on I-95 doing 70mph for a 1/3 of the trip. I made that 220 mile (one way) run weekly for over a year. I drove all manner of ways to see what mileage I could obtain with the ranger. When I drove for mileage is when I could consistently achieve just above 28MPG (keeping the RPMs below 2000 at all shift points). My normal driving style netted me 25.5-27 MPG. Tooling around town locally gets me 24-25.5 MPG depending on traffic and stop lights.

Like any other vehicle, the heavier the foot, the more fun, and the less MPG.

Weize battery should have could have been your answer, picked up the 850 CCA for a mere $126 some months back, put in the Ranger a few months back replacing the OEM but now took it out and installed it in my RV because the small cheap RV interstate battery couldn't keep the refrig running after a cloudy day. So having desulfated the motorcraft OEM it's back in the Ranger and the bms has been disco'd for over 2 yrs. A bonus of the Weize purchase - shipping was free and no core or return of a battery.
Don't know if Weize batteries will be impacted by the current raised tariffs on Chinese batteries, Weize is Chinese firm but my Weize was from Germany.
No need for your Ranger to wheeze just go with a Weize, yes they call me the Weize, it keeps me blowing down the road, ain't using no more ASS, BMS ain't draining down my Weize

Yeah, I'm a solid 14-15 mpg in town, maybe 16-17 if the wife is in the car

That's why I got rid of the F150 Raptor, that was a solid 7-8 mpg in town.

I am 16 MPG in town and 24 on the road. It's only 4 miles to work so not too much mileage during the week. I do have the Unleashed tune and love it. I am about due for a battery as my Ford Pass App turns off things to conserve the battery and I do use a charger once a month or so also. 4 year Rangerversary coming up in October.
