Hey just wondering if anyone has done it and used non chlorinated brake cleaner on the plastic pan? I know you usually don’t use brake cleaner on plastic so it makes me a little nervous. Any other suggestions to clean it?

Just wipe it out. Most of the gunk will be around the magnet. Or better yet, order the doorman pan with the drain plug. They are only 65.00. You get a brand new clean OE pan and a drain plug to boot.

Got mine from Summit. Arrived in 3 days. Ordered the ULV fluid from oreilly. Keep track of which bolts go where. Took me an hour but I was really taking my time. Stick a tube in the dipstick hole and drop the other end in a drain pan. Pull a vacuum on the tube to get it started and it will empty itself into the drain pan. I ended up with a 1/4” of fluid left in the pan when I dropped it. Easiest drop I’ve ever done

I read I can use Scott shop towels to wipe it out, have you ever used those?

also did you reuse the old pan gasket or get a new one? I seen it says it’s reuseable, but I got one just in case

Brakleen doesn't affect the plastic pan, I know, I used it.
Thanks I was looking for an answer on google and couldn’t find one. Did you wipe it out after with shop paper towels or just let it dry on its own?

Mechanics go crazy with that brakleen. Ford would have been stupid to put a pan on that can't tolerate it. Keep in mind that there are a lot of different types of plastic, and some of them would be dissolved by motor oil or transmission fluid. I don't know exactly what ford used to make to the transmission pans (or oil pans in some cars), but I have never heard of the pan just crumbling or failing that way. Ford has made a lot of them. I wouldn't worry about it. I believe the pans are engineered for their use.

Just change mine at 62K. Used brake cleaner on the pan then wiped it dry. No damage and very little debris on the magnet.

How many quarts did you put in? Also where did your dipstick read cold? And hot?

@Rangerdude123. 7 3/4 + quarts. There is another recent thread which I explained more fully how I changed the transmission fluid.

I did it yesterday and it took about the sane capacity says 12.8 so it was confusing. Also was reading overfilled until the fluid mixed

Ford says the gasket is reusable. Mine looked brand new. I lightly wiped it and examined pretty closely. Reused it and have not had a problem. I don’t understand how some people have used 7 plus quarts of fluid though unless they used one of the oversized pans. I drained 6 quarts plus a tiny bit. I put in exactly 6 quarts and 12 ounces. I’m assuming the other 11-12 ounces difference was soaked into the filter plus what was in the pick up tube. I’ve checked it 3 times now both warm and hot. It’s perfect.
