one of the simplest things you can do is;

with the engine running, put a block/jam a stick on the accelerator to keep it around or just over the 2000rpm mark, remove the air filter cover, remove the air filter, and every 5-10seconds spray a one second worth of Wynns EGR cleaner spray (diesel / petrol as required) up the exposed air intake until the entire can is gone (inbetween sprays, let the engine recover it's 2000rpm running speed before spraying again)..

you may stall the engine with a little too much spray on occasion, just restart engine and continue

ive done this on many a diesel vehicle which has removed EGR problems.. and if it works, its an easy ÂŁ10/$10 fix.

remember to go drive it for 30-50miles to hopefully clear the warning from the engine (or use a half decent code-clearing device)

good luck and let us know how you get on

Since my truck was under warranty the dealer “eventually” changed the DPFE sensor and that fixed the issue.

first they tried removing the the crimp fitting on the hoses and replaced them with hose clamps thinking it was leaking.
Turned out it was the sensor itself.

What did you do to resolve the problem?

You simply replace the sensor. It is about a 15 minute job.

I keep some on the shelf and replace them as needed. On #2 at the moment at almost 50k.

The Standard Motor Products is the Motorcraft unit with the text scrubbed off. Those are the ones I keep on my shelf. Most of the time they are out of stock.

I don't know if Summit can get them any better than Rockauto, I suspect not, they probably come from the same place.

Since I was able to score some for $19 I didn't even bother with the dealer. Isn't worth the time out of my day.

That's funny...I've used tools designed to do exactly that...prop the pedal and hold at 2k and no can do...it'll easily run away to 5k...needless to say I returned the stupid tool...

lol, my good man, literally get a thick stick from the garden or wherever (piping, walking sticks, a long breaking bar, whatever), just make it about 18" long, put one end against the acc pedal and the other against the drivers seat, and adjust your driving seat to hold it in the right place.. (electronically adjusted driving seats are best), cant go wrong.

Is that safe for the turbo?

This stuff is for diesel engines. Instructions specifically say to spray into throttle valve/body and not to introduce through the intercooler. Also says it can be used to clean a removed turbo or egr cooler. So his method he is suggesting is invalid for our gas engine turbocharged and intercooled Rangers. Besides the issue is the sensor and this cleaner has nothing to do with that. Personally I wouldn’t even begin to think about using this on our applications.
