This is extremely disappointing. I have a ‘19 with just over 60k miles and unfortunately this will be in my future. I’ve put so much money into the truck, I doubt it’s worth removing everything off it to get something else. Wish Ford would help those that got screwed over by their incompetent design.

Owning a vehicle these days has certainly become a different investment than it was twenty years ago.

Technology changes almost exponentially and the life cycle has been dialed back either as a result of that speed or as an unfortunate circumstance.

For myself, I realized an extended warranty made sense after living with the technology for a short while, digging around the engine bay and being on this forum.

The transmission is likely the most expensive single item with a significant chance of failure; the blend door in the HVAC (requiring disassembling the entire dash) being next. Then a string of electronic and LED lights...

This may not give you comfort now if you could be on the hook for another $10K in expenses and repairs which depending on when could be half the value of the truck, not mention the hassle of not having it while getting fixed. It's quite a convoluted financial dilemma. Trucks are an ongoing expense.

It a combination , trying to do this for less money to the parts supplier. Something has to give.

It will be interesting to see what they do, the shifting had become so bad, like it was losing line pressure over time, all the shift points just kept getting higher and higher until it just wouldn't shift unless I lifted, or gave it throttle then lifted.

I hope it's not one of those things where the tech is thinking: "the valve body is easy money, pulling the trans is bitch and warranty doesn't pay crap, I'll throw the valve body at it"

Unfortunately, an extended warranty just prevents you from PAYING for most repairs, it does not guarantee a lack of breakdowns, towing, or inconvenience from being stuck out of town.

I’ve had enough of these experiences (stuck out of town, freezing cold, waiting for a tow truck) from even known reliable vehicles to say: no matter what, even if you buy a Toyota Camry or Ferrari, being prepared for breakdowns, having a roadside assistance or trusted towing company on speed dial, and general items (gallon of gas, quart of oil, rear axle and antifreeze fluids, plus a jump starter that doesn’t need another car) is the best you can do.

After that…good luck, I’m sure we’ve all been there and have the stories to tell.

Had the same repair done on my 2019 at around 55k miles and no issues after 5k miles on the repair. I posted a thread about my experiences.

How many Camaro 10L80s are experiencing this? How about the other trucks?

For some reason, even though everyone seems to think it’s “the same transmission”, I’ve driven enough 10R80 F-150s and Camaros to say that the Ranger 10R80 absolutely feels different. Not sure if we have less/more clutches or different hardware but none of the other 10R80 equipped vehicles drive anything like the Ranger.

No slips, no delays, fast shift times and immediate response (none of this “stuck between gears” BS). I think that there’s actually a hardware reason our 10R80s don’t last (besides the CDF Drum) that Ford isn’t willing to admit to the public.

There certainly are less clutches. I've forgotten the details, but I remember reading about the slight differences.

Here's the Ford 23-2350 TSB in case you're interested.
If I take my 2022 into the service department built on 6/22 and covered by TBS 23-2350 will they do anything? Or do I wait until it’s towed in?

If there's any comfort to know, there's life after tranny blow up...you have 35K miles to save up $6K...

Developed together, but they are different units with not a ton of shared components, and the programming is pretty much 100% Ford or 100% GM.

Some of the valvebody parts are the same as evidenced by Sonnax and their upgrade listings. A quick glance at the Raybestos clutch listings shows that some of the clutches interchange as well, but I don't know how many.

The pans are also different, but that's pretty minor.

HOW MANY MILES ON THE ODO? WHAT WERE THE SYMPTOMS?
93,000 kilometers which is ~58,000 miles

I felt vibration while driving between 55 - 65 km/h when the truck was cold. When it got to normal operating temperature it wouldn't do it.

Had harsh shifts 1-2 when temps dropped low 20s even after letting engine warm up for 5 minutes. After driving for a bit shifts were smooth again. So, tried reverse for 20 seconds, drive for 30 seconds before starting to move. Warming up the trans really helped smooth out the harsh 1-2 shifts.

TSB 22-2350 has me thinking about transmission fluid/filter schedule. If it is going to fail want to get value out of my 125k / 8 year ford ESP.

I have a 2019 Lariat with 62,000 miles (of course, 2,000 miles past the powertrain warranty) that is starting to experience some rough shifts between third and fourth gear. It only happens 30-40% of the time, but it's almost like a delayed engagement for up to a second. It also seems to be after the trans warms up. I figure the CDF sleeve failure is starting to show itself. I'm going to talk to the dealer and get the process started I guess. I got a 100,000 mile extended warranty through the dealership, which I thought I got burned on at the time, but now might've been a smart move. :p
