i think it looks good. How does it compare to the arb safari ?
wouldnt mind having one but im not in the mood to spend more on the 5g for a while lol. wet alternator - nah give it hell. ive had mine wet a few times. its the dang mud and leaves that kill it . my 4g was awesome at water fording until it suddenly got too deep too fast. dried her out still runs like a top. thought id never get that damn catfish out of the rear seat area. dont have the opening half doors so i had to make him use the passenger door.

Yeah I was looking at one of those.
I am going to see how well this does on it's own especially with snow, I got a sock someone recommended for when it is snowing just to prevent most of it from going directly in.

When I go out to the West Desert and near the Bonneville Salt Flats during the summer the dirt just turns into silt. As fun as it is, it is awful at the same time.
check out the Snorkel Upgrade. @UnregistredHypercam2 is selling his, since he sold the Ranger. It has a spinning element inside to eject any dust or water that gets in. Works really well. There is a sale thread on here for it.

Yeah I saw that. Not really in the market at the moment, I want to see how the pre-filter sock I got for it works when I am off-roading. I like the idea of the ram scoop a bit more.

Just an update to this on anyone that might care. Over the last 10 months of using the snorkel I have had greatly improved filter life and somehow managed to squeeze 1 MPG out of Ranger since the installation(someone explain that to me).

This last season I went through 1 filter. The last two seasons(2022-2023) I went through 2-3 per season as they got pretty bad after a few days of driving in the powder dirt in the Utah West Desert.

The current filter still is a bit dirty and still needs a replacement, but it is significantly cleaner than I was expecting based on previous ventures.. I decided to go a bit further and replace the RAM Air Head and get a Sy-Clone pre-cleaner head for the snorkel as others had recommended in this thread. Ill update my findings in another 10 months or so when I have had a chance to get a few trips out of it.

All in all I have been pretty pleased with this snorkel, I like it's appearance and the peace of mind that I am not sucking in silt from the road and vehicles in front of me.

The positive pressure from the Ram Head is what allowed you to get that extra 1 MPG. Not a surprise.

For the Syclone Pre-Cleaner, I think you will like it. I have used it on my 93 Pathfinder and I'm using it on my 2012 Frontier as we speak. It is definitely going to help with keeping Dirt Dust and other Debris out of the intake. It even works well with Snow!

Here are two filters from my 93 Pathfinder. The cleaner one is with the Syclone in use. The other is just with the ram head.

That is great, I was already pretty pleased with the results of the RAM head.
I didnt think the RAM air could create enough postive pressure at the speeds I drive. Seeing how the Turbo is going to pull in more than the RAM air can force in, but I wasn't complaining the last 10 months.

Also look forward to not collecting bees and other insects as I drive.

I presume Ill see a bit of a drop in MPG with the Sy-Clone, did that happen with yours?

You will probably go down by like 1 at best. The big thing to look at is how you're going to increase the air filter life. Regardless I still recommend using the factory air filter over the aftermarket. You will have the best filtration regardless

That isnt terrible, I gained 1 this last year, dont mind losing 1.
Not like I bought the thing for fuel economy anyways.

100% I always use the factory.
I have noticed the OEM has a better gasket to seal it in the air box as well.

Thanks!
I think it was a worth while mod IMO for the type of terrain/environment I like to play in. Plus I think it looks cool.
