I’ll get the pan the first time I service the tranny. Waiting on the Fitzstick now.
Hey, what’s a Fitzstick? Is that one of those long transmission dipsticks??
Where?
Thanks!!!

After 14 months I only have 246 miles on my Ranger, so if I were to drop the pan, I would try to suck the fluid out and reuse it.
For the price of fluid I would change it, with the amount of metal that the transmission sheds in it's first few miles, I bet even at 246 miles it looks like pink metal flake paint in a drain bucket.

I bet you could run it through a Frantz TP filter and reuse it though, I wonder how many people here know what that is? gotta be old

I knew of a guy who ran his used synthetic oil through one to reuse it, he saw a Youtube video.

I asked "what worked best? Charmin or Northern Quilted?"

Yeah, I thought about re-using the 19,000 mile fluid, but then figured new fluid is cheap insurance. And, new pan, new filter, have to go with new fluid.

Well, guess I'm the first to get it delivered...came just a few minutes ago.
Real nice, no flaws in the casting. Even supply new stud bolts for those who need them, and a full size layout where they go and torque values.
Got my fluid and will order a new filter.
At just over 19,000 miles, and will do the swap around 20,000 miles.

My dad had that TP filter in his datsun truck when we lived in Guam. You only needed to change the TP and one qt of oil...

Is that what you are talking about?

I think they made them for aircraft also.

Yes, they used to be called Sky filters I thought, they were in junkyards everywhere on 60's cars when I was a kid.

With the groove in the mating surface of the pan, does it take a special gasket, or does it use the standard Ford stock pan gasket?

Not an empty groove....has a captive "O" ring type of gasket/seal....no need to use an OE gasket.
