Something put a hole in my transmission pan cover. I’m frustrated that the FX4 package does not protect this part of the truck especially when the construction of the cover is plastic.

Ouch that sucks. Weird move on Ford's part. I know it sits higher than the frame but still a skid plate would be nice,

And I heard these are pretty much disposable? Is that Right? Basically, if you drop the pan for maintenance, it gets a whole new pan with integrated gasket? Seems like a weird move by the engineers!

IIRC Fords maintenance doc on servicing Transmission with filter/fluid changes recommends a new pan.

Already looked for alternatives for when I get there. There are a few cast aluminum ones for a reasonable price. Definitely more protection and extra cooling

XDP has one for models thru 2020. Would probably fit the 2021. Here’s a pic of the whole underside. Still shocked there is not more protection in the “off road.”
Ford charged me $900 for the repair. I know it’s a lot but was in a tight spot to get the truck back quickly.

$900 to put a new pan on and refill the transmission? Did they at least include a tube of KY with that screwing? The pan is only $83 from FordParts.

and it cant be alot of labour to unscrew that with a dewalt and put another back on.
Ahhhh, but they had to use the special "approved by Ford", "made for Ford" righty tighty, lefty loosey , right hand or left hand usage, power screw removal device !

Well, the dude did say he was in a bind and needed it fast. Can't blame him for paying that under that situation.

And it looks like that dealership was more than willing to take full advantage of his situation.

$250 for diagnosis? I would love to hear that service center justify charging $250 to diagnose the fact that there's a big hole bashed in the transmission pan!

Tech probably had to get out a parts diagram, find the trans pan picture, and compare the new one with the damaged one, to make sure the damage was really damage.

Yeah don't get me wrong, think it sucks they took advantage of the situation but in his position, he probably did not have many options.
