Have a friend who has owned Yotas for decades - 4runners, the original supra, camry. He badly wants a hybrid RAV4 but says they are really hard to find.
they are. we got to test drive one at our local dealer, but the vehicle was reserved for someone already.

we had to get on a waiting list for the corolla cross hybrid and wait some months for it. didn't really get a choice about trim level or color. thankfully my wife actually wanted the top trim (this one was), but blacked out was not her first choice. still, it does look sharp blacked out the way it is.

I'm checking them out now....did you have the 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder?

Just found a 2012 XLT Escape. Clean, 1 owner, 111K miles, 4 cyl 4wd for $7K
Also found a 2009 XLT. 1 owner, 82K miles, 6cyl, 4wd for $7K
I had a 2010 3.0L V6 XLT 4WD which I bought new. Between the two (and all else being equal), I'd go for the '09; less mileage and a little more power for when you need it.

Biggest problem with the Escape is a tendancy to rust out over the rear wheels into the rear suspension mounts. It runs cheap and repair parts are easily available.
That's where mine started to die out too. Eventually it got to the point where it was too rusted through to be safe; even the slightest little fender-bender would have snapped the frame.

Really nice bike! Love the quality of Trek...unfortunately my old Dawes Mtn. bike was stolen :frown: so I replaced it with the Trek.

Before the Ranger, I had an '01 F-150 and a '12 Focus. I sold both when I bought the Ranger, as downsizing my fleet was part of the plan. The extra room in the driveway is much appreciated. I also like paying insurance and licensing of just one vehicle.
Having said all that, if I had a roomier driveway, it would be kind of nice to have a smaller, more economical car to drive now and then. And something besides the wife's car to drive if I have to leave the Ranger for service. Otherwise I really don't miss having two vehicles.
I had a 2012 ranger hatchback, 5 speed. Sporty, fun car but 32-33mpg vs 22 is not THAT much of an improvement.

The problem with your budget, OP is that for the math to make sense you need a car that doubles the mpg (if you want gas savings to pay). Now we are talking hybrids and the problem there is the ones under 10K are old, and a failed battery would total it. My wife had an insight for years and sold it just under 200K. No major issues outside of the AC needing to be overhauled, but it was a liability. Only got a few grand out of it (pre pandemic), but the new Ioniq hybrid with lifetime battery warranty seemed worthy.

edit: we doing bikes? Here is the budget CF I built out over the summer. Sub 15lbs now (no bottle, computer, pedals which is how mfgs list weight - with it’s like 15.5lbs).

I'm definitely not looking for the gas savings to pay/cover the cost.....not quite expecting or needing that, it's just that if I am going to take on a 2nd vehicle, I want something efficient. I don't want to spend money on a vehicle that costs more than the Ranger to maintain and operate.

I know next to nothing about hybrids to be completely honest, but taking on any extra risk of a high expense (batteries) probably doesn't make sense with what I'm trying to do. As with the Ranger, if I buy a 2nd vehicle, I'll be planning to keep it until it dies.

Do you have any future road trips planned with the new bike? Like the FX2 model name - sounds like a Ranger...

Well I been driving a 18 Grand Cherokee and it's been doing wonders for my current situation. Eventually though I'm hoping to Coyote swap the bronco and have a 3rd running vehicle

Good job and lightweight! How does it ride? My bike is aluminum (not carbon) and I too try to keep everything as light as possible but don't want to get stuck out in the field without water, headlamp, pump and a spare tube so with minimal addons total weight is 43 lbs.

Pretty amazing! It’s my first light road bike, dropped 10lbs or so vs the bloated sora bike I started with. I still have a few ultra weight weenie bits to install, and am swapping to an integrated handlebar setup.

I carry that stuff too - toolbag is under 300g. Took me a few flats to realize Cleveland roads need firm tires..

I'm with you about flats...lots of thorns, goat heads, and cactus out here in our high desert areas...got one flat from broken glass while riding on the street... :(

I bought a 2023 Mazda CX 30 premium with the turbo engine. Very fun to drive! Great vehicles at a reasonable price. I use it to drive to work and run errands. I save my truck for road trips and towing my tear drop camper.
