1/3 of the state has foot hills. My “mostly flat” holds. Campbell hill isn’t much of anything either.
1/3? Mmm kay.

So 1 assumption Is you know where i live or work.

2nd is you know how the truck was used.

3rd is rotors are worn

4th is no shop would replace pads

5th is assuming everyone has same experience with brakes as you do

6th is assuming youre opinion is fact.

Yes, 2/3 of Ohio is less than foothills. You are reaching.

I don’t care where you live, you list Ohio.

I don’t care how you use your trucks.

Ford doesn’t give you enough rotor material to survive hard use.

I didn’t make any comment on pads because it’s a given that they would be replaced, along with your rotors.

Back to the actual Tacoma reliability discussion rather than trashing parts quality.

My brother has a 2017 with 130k miles on it and has had zero issues. He has had to replace keys twice because he's ran them over (I still don't know how he managed that) but that isn't on Toyota. He is not mechanically inclined and only gets oil changes when I ask him every 6 months or so if he's done it so preventative maintenance is not happening. The fat that the Tacoma has held up without issues is a miracle but the fact is that it has held up. So, I won't knock it. I actually looked hard at the Tacoma but couldn't get a decent deal in today's market. Went with Ranger as I've owned a number of Fords over the years, some good and some bad.

The truth is that the mid size trucks today are pretty quality. I know Chevy has some known issues on the twins. Realistically most buyers of any of these trucks get in an drive. They don't spend all that much time worrying about it, or even researching them. For most people they will never experience reliability issues and if they do we'll never hear about it because they aren't on forums talking about it.

Well, then stop making assumptions on where i live and how the truck is used in your response.
My trucks are used hard. No issues with brakes.

So no links yet? Specs on inferior brakes? Comparisons against GM, RAM, and Tundra trucks? Any real data to back up your claims?

Or just admit you have no facts or data and just making up crap?

I don’t need any links, I have almost 20 years of experience owning Ford products which I stated.

I have owned at least 10 Toyotas with the older models better than the newer. The last being a 2007 Tundra shop queen that fragged the motor after the dealership blamed a gasket failure for them misintalling the oil filter. My 2003 Tacoma with inline 2.7 was bullet proof. Id say quality/reliablity waned while parts prices soared.

The only Toyota I would buy now would be the new Supra unless they bring back the FJ cruiser.

How can they not be reliable. Yota finds an engine that works and just sticks with it forever.

Then we make fun of it for being slow because they seem a generation behind on engine design (not counting hybrid stuff)

Though it may sound like it, i'm not bashing the Tacoma. I like it besides the horrible transmission/transmission tuning and some aspects of its design are better than the Ranger. But I'm so tired of the Tacoma being touted as the most reliable thing on the planet.

I stumbled across this thread while looking for other information and it's not 'new' but it summarizes some interesting points regarding the Tacoma and specifically the engine.

2gr-fks engine catastrophic failures. | Tacoma World

The thread is closed. Also, please don't spam their forum. Just read and inform yourself and hopefully others that the Tacoma isn't god's gift to reliability that folks think.

Funny I used to own a 17 Tacoma and just got the attached email today.

THEY HAVE GOOD YEARS AND BAD YEARS JUST LIKE ANYONE ELSE
IF YOU GOOGLE "WHAT IS THE BEST YEAR MODEL TO BUY A TACO, YOU'LL SEE WHAT I MEAN
MY NEPHEW BOUGHT A 2018 AND EVEN THOUGH IT'S A DOG COMPARED TO MY RANGER, IT'S BEEN A SOLID AND RELIABLE VEHICLE. BUYER BEWARE ALWAYS. NO GAS IN THE CRANKCASE, NO SPONGY BRAKE PEDAL THAT GOES TO THE FLOOR, BUT,, HE PAID JUST AS MUCH FOR HIS USED TACO AS I PAID FOR MY LOADED LARIAT, HE GOT RIPPED OFF BIG TIME BY THE DEALER

I purchased a new Tacoma TRD Sport in 2005. It was, hands down, the best, most reliable vehicle I've owned. When I researched a replacement, Consumer Reports rated the 2016-2022 as one of the two worst mid sized trucks on the market. Toyota's complacency truly shines through. Which why I purchased a Ranger, one of the top rated midsized trucks on the market. My brand loyalty goes only so far until the reliability takes a crap.

Engine is good for that reason. My buddy's Tacoma has had the tranny replaced, along with countless bearings and U-joints to include the drive shaft . Oh yeah, he's had it painted several times as well.

The same with all his Tacoma's he's had

Yeah, they're reliable.

I came from a 06 TRD. Great truck but the Ranger was the best mid-size in 2019 when I looked.

I had a massive piece of shit Honda Odyssey. Broke constantly... motor mounts, electrical shorts, exploding radiator, failed power steering system, etc. Traded it for a GM that only needed a door handle outside of basic maintenance after 7 years (knock on wood). So I assume that means all Honda vans are trash and all GM 3500 Vans are awesome.

Gotcha.
