OK, I like that approach... Amazon ( Flexible Valve Stem Extenders Stainless Steel )has them for $13 at a length of 12" and $10 at a length of 7" (set of 2)

If you used this product, do you have a recommendation which length works best??

PS: LOL... ZD Valve (Chinese) makes these.. and if this is the same ZD Value... I am optimistic about durability...
ZD Valve
I used the 7" length - works fine.

I mounted my 265/70/17 K02 spare with the valve pointed down to be able to check the pressure and it fits great. Looked like there was 3-4" left in the circumference of the mount to get a bigger tire in. This is also an advantage because the valve side has a deeper dish and if mounted up, water that is splashed into it will sit there :)
I just flipped my spare today. CG was a little weird cranking it back up but now I can check the air easily. While I had it off the truck I peeled the "Peel Here" sticker off the rim. The dealer didn't peel the other 4 off either when it came off the carrier. Still wondering about the new vehicle "prep" they soak us for...

It is convenient to be able to access the valve more easily.

Yep, I know what you mean about dealer prep. Fortunately was able to excape that charge. Negotiated the purchase on the truck before it was delivered to the dealer from the assembly plant. The deal was finalized before they had a chance to prep it and add the prep charge on :)

Might just be easier to access the spare if you modify your Ranger like these trucks.....

I just bought a 2019 Lariat. Checked the spare and how it works. Works just like the spare on my 2005 Ranger, except the 19 has a chain hoist and the 05 had a cable hoist.

I flipped the tire on the 05 so I could get to the valve. I did not flip the tire on the new one, yet. I wanted to check here first. I just lubed the mechanism.

First thing tomorrow:
flip the tire to the intelligent position

A year ago I had an arguement with a tire place about this subject. I cant imagine why tires are hung with no access to the valve. If they need to be stored with the valve up, then there should be a valve extension.

I mounted my 265/70/17 K02 steel spare (same size as the ground tires) with the valve pointed down to be able to check the pressure and it fits great. Looked like there was 3-4" left in the circumference of the mount to get a bigger tire in if ever needed. This is also an advantage because the valve side has a deeper channel in the rim and if mounted up, water that is splashed into it will sit there. Water was sitting in my original OEM spare rim channel when I removed it because it was mounted with the valve up. Others have said that serious off roading can damage the valve if it is pointed down.

I agree, with no easy access to the spare's valve, you know for sure too many people are running around out there with poorly inflated spares, very unsafe!

I always have the pressure checked in the spare when the tires are rotated.

The day I bought my Ranger I took the spare tire out and put in my garage. Bought a 12v pump and tire plug kit. When I feel like carrying the spare I throw it in the box and put a cable bike lock on it.
The only thing worse than having a flat tire on the side of the road or in a parking lot is having your legs run over by another car while you're f*&%ing around dropping that.

Are you confident they actually lower the tire and check it?
Don't think they lower it because the valve is on the bottom side of the wheel facing down but just check the pressure while it is in place.

I have five OEM Sport wheels and keep the spare positioned so the valve stem is oriented toward the right-rear corner. Easy to reach up and over for checks.

I considered flipping the spare over, but do not want to damage the finish with the hanger plate or have the back side cavities of the wheel fill up with crud.

Oh, well that's a different story. That's just another reason for it to face down. Ask dealer to check and they are much more likely to actually check it.

Well I went above and beyond with mine. I added soft and hard covers, valve extensions and winterized the hell out of it with tire dressing and amsoil HDMP. The steel wheel was showing some corrosion and in hindsight I should have taken better care of it over the past 4 years. I am also gearing up for a long work commute in this truck for the next few years.

However, this hard cover while very rigid and well built, and what seemed like a great idea protection-wise, must mount onto the (more recessed) back of the tire. Therefore when the wheel is fully re installed, it lengthens the hoist chain and becomes the main point of contact and support for the whole wheel.

When it’s cranked back up good and tight, it’s all a good tight fit and snug but just seems to have too much vibration (when I kick or hit it). So on the highway I can only imagine how much that will add up over time.

While I’m not worried about my new set up failing, I am worried about the toll excessive movement/ vibration will take on the hoist mechanism, and which the wheel when mounted in stock fashion, did not seem to have.

I may wind up just throwing the spare in the bed for the best protection, and taking it in/out if when I need to.
