Save Battery Message

Has anyone ever seen this message come up on the start up screen. From my experience this doesn’t allow me to us3 the remote start. I took it to O’Reillys for a battery check and it tested okay.

If anyone has a solution it would be greatly appreciated

What did the battery check show? Base on others experience here, something tells me it is a weak battery. Seeing you have a 2019 this could be a signal it is failing.

You may also get that if you haven’t driven the truck for a week or more, in which case it’s normal. Otherwise, it’s probably a weakened battery.

I too would suspect a weakened battery. I am convinced the battery management systems on these newer vehicles is optimized for fuel efficiency versus battery life. I use a CTEK charger anytime the truck is in the garage.

On my last long time vehicle, I was averaging about 3 years on each battery. When I went to using a tender and always hooking it up when parked in the garage, my battery life jumped back up to 7 years.

Same here.

When it isn't 6000 degrees out I tend to nap at lunch in the truck on work days. Snore to loud without the CPAP to try that in my office. Leaving the radio on for some background noise.... so, l've seen that warning a bunch. Battery is fine (knock on wood)

Cycle the key and it will cut it out and remote start; mine does anyway. My commute is almost all high speed highway so I have plenty of time to recharge it driving home if it is really low at all. Never had an issue starting it.

I've been seeing that warning sporadically for the past year (fall 2019 Ranger here). I installed a battery tender that I try to run with some regularity. Most of my driving is shorter distances and usually spaced out by several days at least. more in wintertime.

Had my battery checked at the dealer the other day (doing a long road trip starting this weekend) and the tech showed me the printout from the battery check, and it is in really good condition.

Power drain from lots of electronic systems (not all of which shut down completely when the truck is just sitting) is the big culprit, it seems.

This ties into the BMS, when the system does it's recalibration after sitting for 6 hours or more, if it senses that the battery voltage is below 11.5 Volts - You will see that message.

You will also see that message while driving if voltage drops below 11.5 volts.

The key factor here is Sleep Mode and even in Sleep Mode, there are some modules that are still drawing power from the battery.

So you started truck and had battery tested, the battery has now been charged from the drive to have it tested and may test good.

The most important voltage is going to be (Wake-Up Voltage) - What is the voltage before you start the truck?

NOTE: The truck will be able to start until the battery voltage drops below 10.2 volts (approx)

My non-SOC changed truck, averages at 11.9 to 12.3 volts (Wake-Up)
Although I do not know exact trigger voltage for System Off to Save Battery, I know it is close to 11.5 volts.
Now a few members use battery tenders / minders, disable the BMS , or use a Desulf to help with the way the Ranger's charging system works.

You might try any of the above, but in the end, the AGM battery is a finicky battery, and it may be wise to just replace it and perform a BMS reset.
The BMS reset will reset the way the battery is charged.

Had this on my used 2019 Ranger at the dealer, made them give me money off to that equaled a new battery. Replaced and haven't seen since (3 months ago). Also like you mentioned, when this was showing, couldn't remote start from app or key. Now no issue.

I would trust the Truck with what it is telling you, the brain can average from its history, the little handheld device autozone uses is junk, two factors #1 you just drove it there so it has a charge on it, #2 its an AGM (kind of like a deep cycle) so it will have and keep a better charge than a reg batt
I too use a tender at least once a month and more in the winter, all my trucks for decades I have used Huge 1000cca marine deep cycle batteries because I listen to my radio all day with the truck off, I am a Ham Radio Op. and have a few radios running all day, I have never been left not being able to start my truck

I see that message on my Ranger and F-150 once in a while. The service manager at the dealership said it's because you leave the key in the ignition when off (I live out in the country, so not worried about being stole). So I always take the key out of the ignition and put it in the cup holder so I don't have to search for it.

I got this message on the truck about 3 weeks ago for the 1st time (the ignition was off and the key was not in it) then started it and took a drive and this message has not appeared since. I am retired so sometimes the Ranger sets 3-5 days without being driven because I consolidate my trips to save gas and keep down the mileage as low as possible. It was very hot in our high desert area around the time I saw this message so these two conditions possibly could have resulted in the message.

I had the original battery replaced in March of this year and no issues so far with it. Hoping that it is not faulty this soon and caused the message for that reason.

Also, I have a new BatteryMINDer and this thread is a ReMINDer that I need to install it soon which should indicate the actual condition of my battery.

I had a similar problem. Was also receiving 'Vehicle Charging' from ASS. The battery was bad so it was replaced. Problem started again. Even with using CTEK trickle charger. Took it to another dealer. It appears the BMS (battery manage sys) was not reset on the 1st replacement since it's unlikely I got 2 bad batteries back to back. It's been 6 months with no problem. If you get a new battery make sure they reset BMS. Good luck.

Per the internets

Turn key on but do not start

Flash the brights 5 times

Then press and release the brake pedal 3 times

The battery light that was steady should flash at you to say it is done.
