Total sticker shock

Just got home from getting the wifes Ecosport serviced. After write up I went to the showroom to check out the new and improved trucks/suvs. There sat a new F-150 Raptor R. Eyes wandered to the sticker in the windshield. only $188k. Just about had a cat.

Pure speculation on my part but I have to imagine it's because they've already (or a dealer in their network has,) successfully sold one for $175k + with hefty dealer markup of course. They are probably hoping to sell it to someone elsewhere in the country over the phone.

My dealer has 2 on the lot for under 82k if you want one. You can't put a price on fun .

My local small town dealer has about 13 new 2023 F150 Lariat package trucks that range from 73-82k sitting on the lot. Needless to say they have been sitting there a few months so far. They don't even have the rear fender well liners at that price either.

so a markup of nearly 80K isn't bad.

I mean, those poor dealers have to be able to pay the mortgage on their homes, boats, vacation homes, cars and girlfriends...

When I bought my Ranger in 19, I paid 4k under MSRP with 0% financing, and I thought I was still getting robbed. Today my $36k truck is worth $33k to some, but then what would I be able to buy with that piddly amount? I was looking at ZR2 Colorados and they are over $53k plus dealers are still adding ADM up charges of $3-$5k. Ranger Raptors are in the mid $60k. with ADM’s. Unbelievable. A $188k Raptor R??? No way ever.

that's 34.18x's what mine cost in 2013. I thought $5500 was bad until I got a new furnace/ac $7150 in 2020
