Hello,

I was chatting with another member last week and had a question on the stock duelers - Which piece is the wearbar? Along the circumference of the tread there are small strips in between the chunks (red circles), but between these rows there are bumps (blue circles). I think the blue circles are the wear bars.

Truck has just under 34K miles, and Abe has a full head of tread. Sorry for the boneheaded question. Bring out the verbal abuse.

Mine looked like that at 24K (but it was tuned ;))
They were fine in dry weather but very lacking in the snow.

Definitely the blue circle. Many tires have them. That said depending on the state you are in you may have to replace tires before you get to the wear bars. Colorado is one of those states. Colorado has a traction law specifically for winter conditions that state tires must have a minimum of 6/32nds tread depth. If your tires are lower then that and you get into an accident you become the at fault driver for that reason alone.

i think the blue area is the bar and red is just part of the mold or tread design. im sure discount tire could say for sure. maybe even hook you up with a good deal on new shoes, they are r5g members.

If you look very close at the sidewall, most tires have triangle close to where the tread starts. Usually those triangles are in line with the treadwear indicators.

Not great in rain either. Mine have over 38k on them and will probably last to 45 or 50k. That's if I don't ditch them for Michellins before that.

Wear bars always go across the tread last I checked.

So yep, the blue circled ones.

Ps harping on people asking for help is a dick move no matter how "silly" the question may be.
Agreed!! If you don't know or aren't sure - ask. People that "know" seem to forget there was a time they didn't "know"

There are no stupid questions. Answers, on the other hand......

Edit: I have 37K on those same tires with about the same amount of tread remaining.

Thanks All! The tires have served me well enough, some wheeling, decent in towing. I realize there are maybe better snow/rain choices. I've got this set on the stock wheels, and a set of Bronco take-offs with 255/75R17 Duelers. My plan is to run these until they are dead, throw winter tires on these rims, and then switch to the broncos for daily. Hoping for 50K at least. Once those are both used up I'll look for something better all around. Will need to compromise between towing, mileage, and traction on trails/in rain.

You should have bought those winter tires last spring. Tire rack slashes the prices on winter only tires mid/late winter an keeps cutting them until they are gone.

I've been looking, but want to land on 255/75R17 and haven't seen fantastic deals. Will keep an eye out though and if i am good through spring will look then.

You're right it might be hard finding a deal in that size.
