  • What brake upgrades have you done as a result of these wheel size/weight increases?
  • What was the weight of the stock wheel/tire combo (per wheel)?
  • What is the weight of your new wheel/tire combo (per wheel)?
A lot of what you're talking about sounds like a drastic increase in unsprung weight with zero improvement to your brake system to handle what is essentially hauling around a LOT of weight at all times.

Just going from stock tires up to a 20" tire will be an extra 13 lbs each, plus wheel weight. Then add rotational mass and inertia and you've got yourself a recipe for running into things (as you did and almost did again)
I would have thought that the 20" Fuel wheels would be lighter than the stock 18" wheels due to the material used.
I will look at upgrading the brakes on Tuesday when they do the shocks if the tire shop recommend it.........at the end of the day I went from BF Goodrich to Bridgestone Duelers and it was like chalk and cheese as far as stopping and ride confidence.
Let's see what goes down on Tuesday

Siping is putting little cuts in the tire. Here is the page from Les Schwab Tire Centers that talks about it:

https://www.lesschwab.com/article/performance-tire-siping.html

And an interesting article (I just found it when googling it), that talks about why you SHOULDN'T sipe your tires:

https://jalopnik.com/why-aftermarket-siping-on-your-new-tires-is-bullshit-1823804912\

It reminds me of the "how often should you change your oil" arguments..... :)

More good info about sipes here:
https://www.discounttire.com/learn/...D_BwE&ef_id=Xkgd7gAAAcwAS-hO:20200229014224:s

The last paragraph on that page kinda sums it all up...

"Due to advancements both in the rubber compounds used and manufacturing techniques that the process of aftermarket siping could void any manufacturer treadwear warranty. For this fact, Discount Tire neither provides nor recommends aftermarket siping for your tires."

Wow! Now that is a fully-modded truck! Great job! I really like that “sport bar” or whatever it’s called? (Behind the rear window). Where did you get that?

Again.... your truck looks GREAT! ?

It came with the truck from Ford
Do you have a part number for that or is it just the same as a WildTrack?
Im asking this out of curiosity and nothing more, why did you put F150 badges on it?
The truck looks great, Im not a fan of the fake hood scoops and badges. Thats just my personal preference. Good job overall, did you mod that Diesel engine in it?

Its just the same as the Widetrack sold here in Thailand
I put the badges on because I like them.
Yes I got a chip that took it from 168 to 202 BHP.....any more speed and I will need to upgrade the brakes.
Thanks

ndwgolf, what an amazing looking Ranger.

Glad to hear you found the right tires for your needs. We say many times that all tires are a product of compromise. There is no one tire that scored a 5 out of 5 in all performance areas. It pays to know what your priorities are and choose the right tires to fit your performance attributes.
I was reading this old thread and read your post and it made me think.

I was dreaming of getting BF Goodrich’s KO2 265/70R17. I thought they would look great on my truck and even photo shopped them onto my truck.

But the reality other than appearance, I would rarely take advantage of the tire as I will be 99% of the time on pavement.

Do people sometimes get larger triuck tires like 265/70R17 but more as a performance tire, as opposed to an All Terrain tire and if so, what would your recommend?

Excellent photoshop @Swingpure!

As far increasing size, It really depends on what the performance expectation is. If handling/steering response is high on the priority list, then increasing to a taller tire with more sidewall height may not be the right choice.

That being said, there are tire models in plus sizes that are tailored more towards on-road performance., even under the all-terrain segment. The Michelin defender LTX M/S is a solid choice and a couple A/T models that come to mind would be the Continental TerrainContact A/T and WildPeak A/T3W.

The Michelin Defender is likely the best tire for what I would want, but the Wildpeaks has more the look I would prefer and since you give your blessing thst it is a solid choice, I will focus on it. It will be a future, not immediate purchase.

Two more photoshops, one with the Defender and the other with the Wildpeaks. (Not my wheels).(I made the tires/wheels slightly too big)

Seen significant brake improvement by swapping out the factory rotors with vented/drilled rotors, brake pads, and steel-braided lines. The OE stuff is apparently rubber hoses:

Kinda curious why they didn't upgrade the calipers.
