I’ve been looking for a performance comparison of a well-tuned 2.3 5g Ranger vs the 3.0 6g… anyone know of such a matchup yet? Dyno, 0-60, 1/4 mile, etc. Not just numbers put together, but an actual head to head. I figure the Aussies must have done this by now…

Not tuned but should give you a idea. Also a 2 0 L diesel, not 2.3. Aussie and SE Asia gets diesels.

Tune the V6.
Twin turbo, no comparison to 2.3.
Go Raptor for HP.
Well obviously, but part of the point here is that the Raptor is at least $30k more (with dealer markups) than a upper end Ranger… pricing it out of most of our reaches. You should be able to mod/tune a 2.3 close enough to a Raptor to make it interesting, no?

I'd line up against a stock 2.7 v6 non raptor Ranger when they appear and be pretty confident.

Raptor and the 3.0. Eh.. Not with my limited mods.

I have a damper. :muscle:

I'd be fully confident lining up against any of them. ?

(whispers heard from off stage....)

Wait, what? The new Ranger now comes standard with a damper?

400hp 3.0 vs 315hp tuned 2.3; Ranger Raptor will be faster and will also get worse mpg. The 2.3 can get more power with aggressive mods and tune but I haven't been tracking what the Mustang crowd can achieve, I'm personally uninterested for preference of durability. Raptor also comes with 33" 285 tires.

30000-dollar difference can buy a lot of mods lol
Or a whole nother vehicle. I'd buy a used Z06 or something before spending that much to upgrade my one-wheel peal machine to a one-wheel peal for longer machine. If the price really is $60k that is ridiculous for a Ranger.

There was a budget? Thought it was ok to dream. But, if your question is race, then the 3.0 twin turbo tuned will make so much more power. Just like the twin Turbo F150 6 cylinder can. So, some engines just can do more. If we are on a budget and want a quick 4 cylinder that is fun to drive. Buy a GTI MK7, tune 310hp at 3,100 lbs. much more fun. Skip the truck, they still drive like a truck at any hp.

Those WRX's are fun to drive. I don't drive my son's very much since I know I will get into trouble with it.

I don't see a single turbo 2.3L competing with a twin turbo 3.0L.

All I can help with is my 93 performance tune on advertised paper puts me at 350 horsepower and 410 ft lb of torque at the crank.

The Raptor is a little over 400 horsepower and a little over 400 ft pound of torque at the crank.

There are so many other variables that you have to account for but I believe if my truck and a Raptor went head-to-head that the Raptor would win but it's not going to be by some exciting amount of distance.

After all there's already video out of the Ranger Raptor and a Dodge TRX going head-to-head and the TRX only won by about a second or so on the line. Did TRX on paper is a much more monster of an engine but In that case the biggest variable is weight of a twin turbo midsize versus a monster engine in a full size.

For the record the reason I'm going $30,000 deeper and buying a raptor is to move from a two-wheel drive system to the four-wheel and the fact that the Raptor for majority of users is such a complete all-in-one package.

We aren't talking about some cosmetic $10,000 add-on stuff like the roush packages for the current Ranger. Everything from the cosmetic stuff like the unique interior setup to the actual performance setup from the factory they're just is not anything comparable.

It is true you could buy a $35,000 Ranger and add $30,000 in mods and if you are mechanically inclined or bank account inclined enough then yes you could do some crazy crap and come out with something better than Raptor. However we all know those are going to be the exceptions not the rules.

The Raptor gets both electronic lockers the biggest motor offering of them all, the live valve suspension, the unique trim interior, you get started with 33 in tires out the door, the suspension body points are beefed up from the factory, and the list goes on even down to the minute small things that the Raptor gets that's not offered like the factory upfitter switch panel etc etc.

Of course all of this is simply my take on it my opinion and there are plenty out there who don't think this.

There is a very nice sand colored new Colorado trail Boss on a lot near me it would cost $25,000 less than what I'm paying for my Raptor but at the end of the day I just want the damn Raptor and maybe it's for stupid reasons.
