Does anyone drive theirs as a worktruck? If so do you have a cap? Sideboxes? Pictures and suggestions appreciated!

There are a few local Ranger work trucks that I've seen. I believe one has a cap. I will try and find photos if I have taken any.

Cap is a must IMO. Keeps everything dry from the rain and you don’t have to tie anything down.

I have an aluminum cap probably the cheapest option unless you are going second hand. The trucks is great, fastest work truck on the site! This thing hauls! Oh and a 1896 lbs payload capacity! What?!

That is pretty easy to set up. I would get a truck cap that you like that fits along with a drawer system like Decked or something. With the drawer system you can have most(if not all) of your tools in there organized and still put things up top. If you are.handy enough, you can build your own racks on top of the drawer system to hold different things like the Refrigerant. I wouldn't worry about going to complicated there.

Hey Dale,

My 2019 XLT is a work truck that I didn’t want to look like a work truck.

My Rangers have all served me well as work trucks, this 5G especially. I have a drop-in bed liner and an ARE CX Classic canopy/topper with a Rhino Rack Pioneer Plarform mounted to the topper. I don’t have any shelving, swing cases or a Decked system inside the bed, just wide open space.

For me, the SuperCab was a must for the longer bed and the ability to do a quick and easy rear seat delete to carry my most-used tool cases while leaving plenty of room in the bed for building materials, larger tools, and debris.

The Pioneer Platform is great for ladders when needed and I have two rifle cases mounted up there for other tools and recovery gear. The rifle cases were an alternative to swing cases because those units take up space in the bed that I really need. The platform is infinitely configurable and I can add or remove items quickly.

The Ranger’s payload capacity more than meets my needs and with the crap ton of tools I might need on any given job, there is plenty of room to haul hard cases, saw stands, saws, ladders, work platforms, shovels, rakes, extension cords, miscellaneous totes, etc, etc. I can easily fit 15 different tool cases and tool bags in the rear seat area alone. I don’t often need so many tools at one time, but my 12” mitre saw and stand, table saw, tile saw, 7-1/4” mitre saw, saw horses, and other saw stands, and larger tool cases can all fit in the back.

Shelving might be handy for some but I rely on DeWalt small parts cases and totes for all the fasteners and hardware I use - easier to take it with me than to make trips to the truck and back.

Top recommendations:
  1. Topper for security, rain, and snow
  2. SuperCab for longer bed and rear seat capacity
I have some of my larger tools in the bed in the picture below and you can see there’s still a ton of room for more.

Hauling stuff - only a few pics…

Good luck figuring it all out Dale.

Rob,

Does your cap have the right tie-down clamps? Are they upside down?

I’m not sure, I didn’t install the cap. It’s been on there about a year and 20k miles. Hasn’t moved and no water gets in.

Thanks! You have a nice setup and so clean! I’m always in dirt fields so I can’t keep it clean.
Thanks but it isn’t always so clean. I try my best but it’s a battle.

Right now, it’s parked under trees at the cottage and it’s a muddy drive in. The front end is covered in bugs from the trip here and it’s been raining lately, so crap has been falling from the trees onto my truck for a few days - not so clean now but I’ll wash it up soon enough and it will look like it does in those pictures.

Well, at least for a couple of days. ?

Using your truck as a workhorse is a smart choice, and customizing it to suit your needs can make the daily grind much easier. I've seen some fantastic setups with caps and sideboxes that turn trucks into mobile workshops. I recently upgraded my own work truck, and it's been a game-changer. I added a cap for weatherproof storage, and the sideboxes have made organizing tools and equipment a breeze. Plus, they keep everything secure while I'm on the job.If you're still on the lookout for a reliable work truck or thinking about making some customizations, I'd suggest checking out www.truckexporter.co.uk. They have a wide selection of trucks in mint condition that could be the perfect fit for your needs.
