I never thought I would part with the Ranger Danger but...
Two weeks ago I picked up the Ranger after having the blend door/plenum replaced. Required the full dash out for removal. The dealer did a really good job and hooked me up on the cost, but even after the repair the right hand driver's vent did not blow much air compared to the other three. Good news- at least it was (finally) cold A/C! The truck only had 33k miles but was out of warranty on time (2019 model).
After looking it over, there were a couple of issues. The lower center instrument panel was not perfectly flush with the dash surround, and there were a few new squeaks. I also noticed that my driver's window auto-down no longer worked. Not sure if it was related but it worked fine before the A/C repair.
While the Ranger was in the shop I noticed an article about Ford's Bluecruise tech. It was the highest rated self driving option on the market, along with GM's (waaaay ahead of Tesla FWIW). That got me looking at F150's, and WOW! Those things are pricey these days...
I ran across a 2022 F150 Lariat Powerboost FX4 with only 18k miles. The dealer was in KC, Mo (I'm in StL, Mo) but they had a really good price on the truck. I checked it out and it was loaded up with packages and options. Nothing in the Ranger line comes close to what is offered on our full size brethren... It was still out of my willing-to-pay range, and to be honest, I wasn't too serious at this point. THEN I filled out the info card and described my Ranger. What they offered me in trade was....stupid. Almost twice what I owe and only a few thousand less than what I paid new for the mid-size.
Long story short- I'm now in a loaded F150 Lariat hybrid with every option that I wanted save for power running boards...and it is still under warranty.....oh, and I have 20k in equity in the F150 driving it off the lot. Oh oh! ... and my payments are $85 LESS per month (for two years longer than what I would have paid on the Ranger, though TBH). Color me happy.
It's been real, Ranger fam but... I'm out!
