Yea, yea, AM is obsolete.
NOBODY listens to it anymore, except a few dinosaurs.
Got it.
But, I'll miss it because listening to the morning news on my commute, without all the OPINION on other sources, was refreshing.
Just another thing lost to PROGRESS. eh?
I think it's a shame.

Wish I knew where my Radio Shack receiver is today...
I had a nice Radio Shack receiver too. It had the weighted tuning knob. One spin an the needle would go side to side. I saw one just like it on ebay a few months back for like $75. I was tempted. I was looking at vintage Bose speakers too. The last thing I need is another hobby to dump cash into though. I used to deliver records to a guy all the time. He was always buying, selling an trading. He said he had 2 rooms full. I walked into his garage sale an saw a copy of Fleetwood Mac Rumors for sale an he gave it to me. I don't have the money or room ?

the sound quality really is different. just my opinion but the 70s - early 2000s were the best for audio equipment. sure some nice and good quality stuff is for sale now but its the extreme price point stuff. All the upper middle priced brands that had great pieces years ago have mostly folded and been sold as just a name to put on junk with internet blue tooth home theater smart app social media all in one boxed "speaker" systems. im not a fan. now if someone wants to get all retro system i have some dyna audio stuff sitting on the shelf just waiting on offers lol. nothing like the warm glow of vacuum tubes

I said for years I wanted a vintage Marantz reciever like the one I could not afford in the 70s. I finally pulled the trigger last September and ditched the modern 5 channel Onyko system with sub. What I did not expect was how much better it sounded and how I now listen to music in a whole new way.
Vintage prices are way up. Allot of the Realistic stuff was made by Pioneer and was very good as well as there Mach 1 speakers. The only negative is although much better built than newer equipment 50 year electronics and speakers may need little or allot of repair or service fortunantly I have taught myself to work on them.

The vintage audio bug bit me hard....I bought all this in the last 6 months. Please ignore the guitars not sure where they came from.

@Todd Chapin its funny that you mentioned Realistic speakers. I still have a set of 8" speakers I bought in the early 80's and those speakers still sound good today. The Realistic's might not have as much bass as newer speakers but the mids and highs are crystal clear.

I forgot which brand of car speakers we favored back then. Before everyone had amps and subs, we would use an EQ along with filling the back deck with 6x9 speakers. The bigger the truck the better the sound. Of course yo couldn't have a lot of stuff in the trunk for good sound.

To keep on subject, my dad use to listen to Paul Harvey on AM radio everyday.

Now you know…the rest of the story,”

its an option on the list with the B&O stereo. a few aftermarket ones but none id suggest. my compact discs all live in the changer at home and never leave now.
my 2016 mustang gt came with a cd player. I bought a 2019 got in after purchase with my new car driving cd ready... looked. looked. looked more... it finally sunk in no cd player o_O i was ticked. The really annoying place was the center stack still had plenty of room for the cd player but was blank.
I had few Mustang GTs and with right exhaust choice the music was under the hood. The Mach 500 sound system was loud but sucked!

Nice set up! I have crappy guitars other than the '64 Gibson southern Jumbo that was my mothers. I have a blues junior amp. My kid can shred I bought him nice guitars. He has a Fender strat American standard I bought to replace the hundred dollar Jackson he started after I saw he got really good in less than a year. I later got him a Gibson '58 Les Paul reissue.

A friend of mine that is about the best local player I've ever seen anywhere has an old Vox that he loves an plays a '77 Fender strat through.

Love me some Gibson j45/SJ ! You are fortunant to own a 64 SJ
Been looking for one for a long long time to replace a 60s Hummingbird that had "it" that was stolen. Funny thing I ended up buying quite a few Martins. Still looking for that j45 that has "it" and not asking a fortune for.

Back to OP. Extremely not worried about G6 without AM because not buying one. Plus I can not remember the last time I listened to am ...or a cd, cassette, 8 track.

Alright, going to weigh in on the AM, personally I use all types of radio, AM, FM, XM, internet, just what ever strikes me at the time. Used to listen to Cardinal baseball 50,000 clear watt KMOX 1120, with my 9 volt transitter radio under my pillow in bed so my mom wouldn't catch me. Got our rock and roll from WLS Chicago, Larry Lujack, John "records" Landecker, Little Tommy, AnimalStories, Chicken Man, KXOK St Louis played rock also. Our local small town station played bubble gum teenybopper rock, can't offend the blue hairs, 1090 WCRA. I can see an emergency communication need if a disaster happens where all communication is out of commision locally yet AM in an unaffected area could still provide information. If nobody listens to AM why do we still have AM stations broadcasting?

I think the more Am falls out of main stream popularity the number folks using things like 10m 11m am will grow. less care from the crowds and am skip talkers will be having a hoot. I would imagine a lot fringe groups will latch on to the less watched am. fcc seems to be focusing more on "other" political concerns these days.

I was reading earlier today if we have a real emergency like the Zombie apocalypse or China invades we need am for emergency broadcasts as it is the governments preferred means of comunicating in such events happen?
I will take my chance with XM and Smith and Wesson.
