Not calling any “one” person foolish, basically calling everyone foolish that would electronically modify the programming of an engine / ECU of any modern stock / consumer market engine.

A bit of an update:

I called the number from Livernois and got their voicemail, but it's a nice day today and I was feeling froggy (or foolish depending on how you look at it).

So anyway I thought I'd give it another go.

I've always been loading the 91-93 Performance tune and it always gives me fits.

I thought I'd roll the dice and tried the Towing tune.

IT WORKED

Wow.

Feeling pretty good about it so rolled dice again and tried 87-89 Performance.

IT WORKED TOO

I stopped there and didn't try any of the Soft Shift tunes as I felt I was already walking on thin ice.

So it looks like my problem may actually be the 91-93 file itself.

I wasn't feeling froggy enough to try that one again until I talked with Livernois.

Progress being made :handsinair:

That's good news! But it still sounds like something weird is going on with the MyCal. You did the most recent updates so the file for the 91-93 "should be right? I don't know the technical terms but it seems like it's not storing it properly? Either way at least you made progress and I'd flash the Tow tune and at least enjoy that for now.

I got that CEL going back to the 91/93 SS tune from the towing one I didn't like. Tried to go back to stock. CEL stayed. In a bit of a panic because I was doing this flashing too late to call for help. I checked the tools/options on the box from LMS. Noticed the relearn for the crank button. After finally getting it to the temp it wanted to be at I had to Rev it like a goofball a few times in the driveway and it cleared the code out. It's been 5k miles and that hasn't come back thankfully.

Posting for anyone who runs into that. Easy fix with the tuner box. The CEL for the crank... not the tune load error. Doesnt seem common for Rangers but Google shows mustangs like to do it depending on the phase of the moon, etc.

When the crank error happened on mine the version of the tuner wouldn’t clear it. The later revisions fixed it.

I couldn't clear the code at all with the tuner or my normal obd2 code reader. I had to follow weirdly specific instructions that were pretty easy. Once the relearn was done, it cleared it on its own without an erase CEL command. A bit.. odd relative to other CEL issues I've run into on other vehicles.

That said. Not sure when that tool was added. I got my box back in October.. I think? Purchased it in September then global supply chain made me wait on the go fast.

Lucky! When I last updated my Ford Performance Tune it bricked my truck. Errored on the first block so I retried. Everything looked like it was successful teh second time until I tried to start the truck. Nothing would turn over. Threw codes P161A, P161B and U2100. Long story short, 1900$ and 2 modules later my truck works again.

SHUT THE FRUCK UP! I am so glad you tried a different tune. That is awesome information to pass along to Livernois. And as I understand they have reached out to you. (a different thread?) I feel you are on the edge of getting your $600 worth any time now. And yes, enjoy the tunes you can load for now. Also, was there anything at all, anything, that you did different today?

No, nothing different besides trying a different tune.

This could be a simple case of a bad OBD cable, or something wrong with the com port on the PC you're using. We have $1000 USB devices we use at work for certain purposes. One kept giving us problems and were ready to send it in for repair. Then one of my coworkers suggested trying a new cable. I thought, no way, can't be that simple. Yep, that fixed it.
I could not agree more. A good cable is critical for data transmission. A bad cable will cause lots of misery.

My Ford tune is 18 months old, haven't updated the tune due to my 'If it ain't broke don't try to fix it' methodology, I have been keeping the tuner firmware updated.

I would say 98% of the time I am that way too. I wanted to beat my own ass lol. Took me a good week to get over the gut punch.
