I swear this truck, as much as I love it, has been a PITA since taking delivery 2 weeks ago, some of it self induced lol ?.

So, long story short...kinda. Yesterday on my lunch break I ran a few errands (one to the dealership to have the service dept make note of the rear door issue) and when I got back to work I had a few minutes to spare so I decided to play around in the menu settings and see what I can "adjust" to my liking, mainly turning off that rear occupants warning. So I see the "key" option in the menu, I figured it was something like having each key set to different drivers preferred settings i.e. radio, climatronic, driver assist etc. When I realize it's not, at that point I needed to go back to work. Which from what I have read, made the changes permanent in that key ?. I came back in a googled MYKEY and found it can be reset with the Admin key, so I thought cool, I'll do that when I get home. When I left I saw all the restrictions it put on the key so I was glad I could reset it. Followed the instructions on Fords website but the second key which I assumed was the admin key, is now restricted as well ??.

Now here is the kicker, my display says 2 keys, 1 admin?? Last week when I took the truck in to have the paint issues taken care of, the dealer lost my key. They replaced both keys and reprogramed them, so I am wondering if one of my original keys is the actual admin key still? I am again going to the dealer on my lunch break today to see if there is an easy fix for this cause the Ford website says a new key needs to be purchased in this situation ?. But doing some googling this morning I found this

https://towratings.net/blog/how-to-turn-off-mykey-on-a-ford-without-the-admin-key/

Has anyone with similar issues done this in Forscan? Dealer will be my first stop, but if they can't help I may try this route since I just got my cable and 2 month free trial yesterday.

On the plus side, it's raining today and I get to see the effects of my detail work this past weekend lol. ?

Mine doesn't list one as admin, I can't remember what it says but both keys are seen as "equal" and I've never touched them in settings.

The rear seat thing will need to be reset every six months. I didn't know that and was annoyed when it started going off again.

And huge congrats on your new Ranger! =)

Thanks!

I think I saw something about that when turning that off, but I'm sure I will have forgot about it 6 months from now so you confirming it won't send me into a fit of frustration when it happens lol.

I wonder if both of your keys got accidentally coded as the same key. Is that possible? I also did this while playing around with my truck as I thought "My Key" sounded very personalized and special until I saw "Vehicle restricted to 60 MPH" on my dash, LOL.

All I had to do to fix the issue was use my other key to start the truck, and there were more options in the Settings than with the other key, including one to reset with a 5-second "OK" press on the steering wheel.

So both of your keys say vehicle speed restricted when you start the truck?

Yea I was thinking the same thing, my sales guy and even the service guy I talked to said it was strange, especially since my display clearly says "2 keys, 1 Admin". And yes, both keys are restricted, mine is 80mph though, so I'm not that restricted ?.

My truck lists (0-Mykey) and (2-Admin)

Some notes on this with checking both the Service and Owner's Manual

It takes an Admin key to be able to -Make a Mykey - (Restriction Key)

MyKey allows you to program keys with restricted driving modes to promote good driving habits. You can program the restrictions to all keys except one. Any keys that you did not program are administrator keys or admin keys.

Every MyKey receives the same restrictions and settings. You cannot program them individually.

My Thoughts:

The truck should not have allowed it to set both keys as Mykeys, unless the dealer did not delete the original keys from memory, so I think you are correct, the truck has (1) of the original keys programmed as Admin.

So, with your new set of keys, I have a feeling that the dealer only set (1) key to Admin and this was the one you used to create the Mykey, and since the truck still had an Admin key in memory, it allowed both of your new keys to become (Mykeys)

So, after the dealer reprograms the keys -make sure you are showing (2) admin keys for the current set of keys.

You can fix the issue with Forscan, I think. I'm not sure if Forscan will Program Keys or not, but any upper level scan tool can do it. All that needs to be done is a reprogram of both keys (making them Admin keys) and wipe out any and all memory of the old ones.

Thanks. I was on youtube watching Forscan vids last night and there were a few how to's regarding Mykeys and how to program new keys and reset mykeys without an Admin key so that's good to know. Dealer said they'll take care of it so I'll just make sure to verify before I leave.

Mine had a paper tag applied to key ring, which was Admin key. The other key didn't have it.
Likely the dealer remove the tag.

The new keys that were programed, both had tags when I got them back.

I remember now.
The tag was for a key code for cutting a blank, if you had a keyswitch model (XLT,XL, etc).
It was also attached the the Admin key from factory.

Dealer should have wiped all keys from the truck and then programmed the new key and your remaining key so there is not a key that works with your truck that you don't possess since they are the ones that lost it. So, they should be able to fixed your miss up while fixing theirs and I would not expect a fee for it. I actually thought with my 2016 RS I had to have an admin key present in the car to convert any of the keys to a myKey, this was good to preventing issues like you've created.

I think if you really look though your truck, you'll find the key they lost... it's likely the present admin key allowing you to convert the others. Well, assuming the manuals correct and process I remember from my Focus are the same for making a myKey are still the same. And if you find that key, cancel the appointment and enjoy the 3 keys.

That's something else I find weird, (that I will ask about on Sat, as I forgot to when the lost key incident happened) why did they give me 2 new keys when only one was lost? Why didn't they just program one more key along with the other key I still had? Here at VW when a key is lost and the customer still has a key left, when the new one comes in, the old programing is killed, and they program the new and old key together. One of the managers even said if they find my lost key, that they'll give it to me and then if I chose I can have that one reprogramed.

I haven't done thorough detail to the interior of my truck yet since its new, just a wipe down, but I thought the same thing about the lost key actually being in the truck somewhere under a seat or something lol.
