I purchased my 2019 Ranger Crew Cab on 7-25. Thought I did a good job inspecting it at this time. 7-30 I washed it and noticed that there were clumps of clear coat on the roof. The closer I looked I also noticed several areas that had swirls and scratches in the paint down to the metal that had been clear coated over.
First available dealer appointment was on 8-7. They looked at it and couldn’t see anything so they asked me to wash it again and bring it back the next day. The next day they were able to see the defects and even noticed some small dents under the globs of clear coat. They took pictures but of course it is hard to see. They then sent me back to the dealer I purchased from which is over 50 miles from my house.
The second dealer could see the defects and sent me to the body shop.
The body shop took photos but you couldn’t really see the defects. So at this point 7 different people have seen the defects with the naked eye but are having issues capturing it on camera.
Work order sent to Ford for request to fix it, denied. I took more pictures myself and denied again. Took back to body shop and the took more pictures, again it was denied.
I called Ford Customer Service and could barely understand the lady and kept getting passed around. After 1 hour and 38 minutes on the phone was told to submit again.
This time we inundated them with photos and I even wrote an email about the whole situation.
On 10-21 it is finally in the shop for paint but they won’t fix the dents so I am out of pocket $150 for that. But I plan to keep trying to get Ford to reimburse me for that.
I was given a loaner truck and the hood doesn’t even line up.
On the attached photos the Grey is mine and the white is the loaner. Come on FORD your QC Department needs to their job.

I have the same problem as pic#3, I have a feeling a lot of other have the same issue just haven’t noticed it yet, it takes a certain angle in the sun in my case or a flashlight. I took it to the dealerships bodyshop manager and he said it was a manufacture defect and was covered under warranty. The catch is the bed has to come off the truck to paint it AND the entire panel has to be resprayed and cleared.. not to mention remove the bed rails, wheel well molding, tail light, bumper and FX4 sticker. All that for a tiny flaw.. there’s no way I’m going to go through all that, I’m just going to live with it. If there was any good news its that the flaw is cleared over and was told wont get worse. I also have the small dent behind the driver side rear door in the cab area other have talked about, look close.. Hard to see and tell but its there..

I am actually lucky on that #3 photo. That is the clear paint protection sticker that has dirt under it. It is actually lifted from the truck, there is so much dirt under it.

Yeah I’m talking about below the PPF in the ruff area whatever it’s called lol. It looks like the paint has small cracks in it, then it was clear coated over.

on my passenger side the PPF wasn't completely flat and bubbled up. While the truck sat in the dealership for 20 some odd days while they troubleshooting wiring issues, you'd think they would've fix that like i had asked when i bought the truck. But no...instead they put light scratches on the hood (what looks like they put a box on top) and the rear corner by the tailgate.

I ended up getting a ceramic clear coat and had PPF put all along the rockers and they sd "we generally remove the factory PPF anyway."

I’ve been over nearly every square inch with the clay bar and all I’ve noticed is a little dirt in the clear under the tailgate handle and a small chip in the RH fender (could have happened after delivery).

@Da Ranger I hope everything gets sorted out for you!

Hi Folks,

Michigan Truck Plant has to get their act together. This paint quality is unacceptable. The Plant Manager needs to be removes for allowing this to happen. There is no excuse for this poor quality. The buck stops at the Plant Manager. He is doing a very poor job as he is geared to production for his bonus, not vehicle quality. I so wish Allen Malay was back in charge than the "Pretty Boy" Mark Fields or this POS, Jim Hacket of Steelcase Office Furniture....Sheesh! We need a Product Engineer at the helm of Ford....Hope the 3rd quarter dismal failure ends Hackets tenure of CEO...He needs to go.

Best,

Tried all day yesterday (was on hold most of the time) to get a Supervisor on the phone for Customer Service. I want to let them know my disappointment in the lack of customer care since this issue has taken so long.

I am supposed to get a call back today. The dude yesterday just kept telling me that the dealership has denied the warranty. I told him that was funny because it was in the body shop now.

I just don’t understand how you are supposed to take pictures and the body shop file online for warranty and they can keep denying without physically looking at it. That is why I want to speak to someone at Ford who has English as their first language.

it is like this whole time they have been saying it is my fault. I’m not the one who dented or half ass painted the roof. Guess they just figured no one would look. Both dealerships and the body shop seemed surprised that I even looked at the roof when I washed it.

On this week's Autoline After Hrs they had a quick chat bout the issues @ Ford. That even though the Explorer/Aviator problems are happening on Joe Hinrichs' watch, he is still likely to take over for Hackett. They also talked bout how they've lost a lot of veteran car guys that knew how to get product out the door. 46mins in:

I got my truck back from the body shop yesterday afternoon. They let me know earlier in the day that they found stains on the headliner.

I had to call the Customer Experience Specialist that had my case since I didn’t receive a call back from one at the promised 24 hour mark. I let her know that I was told about the stains and she said to send pictures when I could. So hopefully this is taken care of soon.

she seemed concerned that I am happy with Ford and my purchase. Best of all and I let her know was that she actually speaks English. She said they are getting a lot of complaints about the broken English, non caring, read a standard reply, confusing reps.

Oh yeah, I would not be happy about that! Hope you get it resolved soon.

I think part of the warranty repair is to find the water leak too. Windshield sealing?

My Ranger came with a bunch of paint problems too. There was a chip in the front bumper, a bare spot on the bottom of one of the passenger doors, and a bunch of dirt/debris in the paint especially on the passenger's side of the box. Ford's paint quality flat out sucks. But what sucks worse is that to correct all of these issues, the truck has to be disassembled and re painted, which I really don't want. Guess I'll be living with crap paint on my Ranger :(
