Hey Bowen,

Some of the members have been looking for something like this to help manage the load of ATVs and Motorcycles resting on their tailgates. Nothing was available for our trucks the first couple of years (tough to find anyway) so some on here will be happy to see this - a bit spendy but the multi-position design is better than other devices that are simply used with the tailgate fully open. ?

My motorcycle is 100% why I’ve been looking for this item on my truck for quite some time!

Looks like it increases the load on the tailgate, instead of allowing the item to sit flat and the bed to carry most of the weight. What's the advantage that I am apparently missing?

I’m about to buy one. For science!

we’ll find out see how the potential damper might work.
With all the stuff I’ve bought “for science”, I should have applied for funding.

Might not do shit for protecting the Gate from a bike lol.
Ouch!

I’ve never hauled a bike but it looks like it would be a good idea to put that ramp under both tires after loading it to have the bed carry most of the load and reduce the effect of dynamic load due to bumps. Maybe angle it toward side where the cable could help it?

To the members who haul bikes, what are some best practices when it comes to hauling your ride?

My bike weighs in at #700, so I just use a trailer.

Product description says it doesn’t work with dampers. Oh well. I don’t have one now anyway!

My dual sport is under 300 pounds, but my ADV is roughly 500 pounds. I think the tailgate weight capacity is 400. It’s distributed between two wheels, but bumps make that weight change dynamically.

this product allows for things like:

this is a fantastic option for me. Definitely will wanna be smart about not putting too much weight on the tailgate itself tho.

How is that better than a flat tailgate?

The wheel is still on the bed of the truck, the tailgate isn't carrying any weight in that photo. If the wheel base was long enough to put the wheel weight on the tailgate, the more angle the tailgate has the farther from the pivot the weight would be, and more increased with leverage (dis)advantage. More weight on every aspect of the tailgate.

I'm not saying don't get one, just that I'm not understanding what the suggested advantage is.

Putting the ramp under both tires would help but you would need help to do that .
The best solution is a small trailer. Not very expensive and a whole lot easier but I know some users will not have a place to store a dedicated trailer. I definitely would never haul a bike that put a tire on the tailgate though.
