Racing fuel!

Get outta here - I'd be all over that (well, okay, maybe one tankful - it would probably blow up the Ranger's computer!).
My motorcycle loves that high octane gas!!!!!!! The higher the better!!!!

Hi Max,

Something is wrong to have these two incidents on a 2022 Ranger. Will you elaborate on the Ranger usage prior to this damage report....

best,
Phil
HI Phil,

Wouldn't say anything super out of the ordinary in terms of usage. Some mild-medium off roading occasionally. Mostly daily driving with some inclimate weather in the process. Latest bout of inclimate weather being coming down Donner Summit from Reno NV during the Atmospheric River this past weekend. Toss in some towing (4000 pounds max), hauling my motorcycle in the bed, and a 1000 mile road trip, and that sums up the first 9600 miles.

Now, what is interesting, is we found this while double checking torque on the front end about 300 miles after installing a coilover kit on the front end. Prior to that, shortly after installing the kit, the front end was inspected and aligned in accordance with the lift/level. During the install of the level, we did make sure to undo the axle nut to prevent tearing the CV completely apart.

My final note here, at least in regards to the tie rod end. When looking further at the tie rod, we could see where a hole had formed on what looked like a seam for the dust boot. As for the CV, it didn't appear to be torn/leaking grease at the time of finding the leaking tie rod end yesterday.

As for my speculation, the front end of the truck has been through a fair amount the last several weeks during my trip that the technician, dealer, and Ford corporate couldn't point to a root cause other than sheer, dumb, luck. And honestly, I'm in agreement. I have friends who are Ford techs, and after talking with them today, they all agree that it doesn't sound like something I did during the coilover install, but I doubt any of the off roading I did, which wasn't super extreme, in the last couple of weeks or the incliment weather would've caused a failure like that either.

Hope that provides decent background regarding how we got to this point. Let me know if you have any additional questions.

No worries! Thanks for checking in Phil.

Personally, I'm shocked this happened, but grateful that my work schedule necessitated checking things over yesterday ahead of my departure. Even more grateful that Future Ford was able to get me in on such short notice, and that they got it warrantied out. Definitely has me considering the ESP when that time gets closer though.

Here's to no more issues and an uneventful drive across I80 this weekend.

Cheers all!

Good luck with your move and have a safe trip. Make sure you give it a good coat of Graphene before leaving. It'll cut through the wind and you'll get better gas mileage. ?

Thanks Dave. Thankfully not moving (at least I hope not, I just moved back to the tip of the Front Range from metro Denver back in October.....) but just headed back following the holidays.

And I think my graphene will need a boost when back in Denver Senor Scorpion. This winter has been brutal on the original application. I take it you'll do it when you and the spousal unit pass through on the next road trip ?

Sorry I thought you were moving, I must have mixed it up with your other post. :headbang:

Sure will! But you'll have to wait until June when we pass through again.?

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness. - Oscar Wilde.

Took $120 worth of Christmas trees to the Township drop off for shredding into mulch. Mine, and my brother-in-law's (he calls me his "favorite brother-in-law with a truck").

Not quite the same as David & Soupie, I even left the Gator cover on! But a (faux) dump run just the same...

Took a nice little road trip through the rural Kentucky country side back roads. Picked up some rims for a tractor I am fixing up. Hit 30,000 miles.

Nothing....because the F-ing body shop can't get the part to finish fixing the kids (Jeep Compass/Deer Strike)car. That means that I'm DD'ing the Type-S and the wife has the truck, while the kid tools around in the 03 Accord (Wife's car). Stupid Stellantis and their supply chain issues.

They keep pushing the damned date back as well. Originally it was Jan 6, and now it is the 13th. I fully expect that it will get stretched out some more.

Since installing my new headlights I needed to go get new easytrip RFID tags. They stick them to the headlights here. I had to get 2, 1 for each freeway system.

Breathlessly awaiting celebration of the first dump run of 2023! Congrats David, saving the planet from that demon of global warming...we should nominate Soupie for the Greta Thunberg Award, complete with window sticker!
I'm disappointed however that you're only #4500! Should have been in line early for #1...

Oh no, that's my license plate number (quick, blur it out!). I lucked out with an easy-to-remember tag - this is the first time I've ever had a tag I know by heart! =D

Fortunately Soupie's race red exterior, its drivers obsessively-frequent dump run schedule, and the ever snarling Cheech (who will snarl but gladly take the Milk Bone from the gate attendant) means recognition on sight by the Public Works team.

I have finally arrived and I'm touched by your nomination of us for such a fine award.

I'll place it under my GT poster ...

I picked my up from the dealer...

They say the leak is fixed...

I also chirped the tires, for the first time... Been driving the outback for the last 3 weeks, and you can't chirp those tires no matter what you do.

Tomorrow I wash and detail the outback (road tripping from south Florida to Colorado and back makes an icky exterior) and The Little Blue Truck, as it's called apparently.
