I am curious as to what driveline mod's you have done to your truck?
Zero...unless you count 2.5" leveling as such...stock tune...drive like grandma...haven't towed anything except my utility trailer with a mower on it and a few off road trips that any mini vans could do...don't laugh...believe it or not, at nearly 100K I'm only on my second set of tires and original set of brake pads...the real trips are in the future when I complete my camper project...

My 92 F250 had the EOD tranny, made it to about 2007 & 112,000 miles. A couple of times it would not go into reverse, put it in drive move a little put in reverse no problem. Then one day she started shifting funny did some grinding but made to the house. Got it towed to the shop. The shift control module went bonkers trashed the inside so I had to put in a rebuilt. Module tranny & labor was about $2400.00 Not shifting to reverse was my warning that I ignored .:headbang: :headbang: :headbang: My head still hurts.

id suspect computer/ sensor problem first. damn electronic wizardry. i say that as you mentioned sometimes turning truck off and restarting later and it going back to normal for a short time.
I hope it gets fixed fast and is not expensive. I feel like all of us will be watching in suspense thinking we may be next... :eek:part of the reason i keep hanging on to my 4g ranger. basic maintenance like oil changes and brake pads and it just keeps on rolling.

Hi Sid,

I recall you replaced the tranny fluid via a drain and pump method. How many miles on the trans after the fluid change? I wonder if changing the fluid "disturbed the Force"...

Aamco used to do a fluid change for $9.99, which created a problem when the new fluid "washed" the varnish off the parts of the case and components and clogged the valve body.

Sorry you are experiencing any problems at such low mileage as you have on your Ranger.

Best,
Phil

Hi Phil...the reason I did the fluid/filter change was due to the onset of shifting problems...it helped some what and almost corrected the shifting at one point but then the problems came back with a vengeance and now nearly undrivable...I'm certain now that it's not fluid related and most likely mechanical, not software...I had reset the adaptive learning after changing fluids...hope it will take me to the dealership on appointment day...

Oh man, Sid. This really sucks. And you were sooooo close. I hope it gets resolved quickly and isn’t too costly.

Thanks Sid. That's also good to know about the lack of brake pad wear. Looking forward to reading your updates on the transmission.

One other question: Are you running the oem stock tire size?

Dang man I hate to hear about your troubles. I commend you on having a good attitude without all the useless “I hate Ford- I’ll never buy another” blah blah etc etc. if it comes to it I suggest picking up a used salvage replacement unit and save a ton.

It’s feeling like 50k mile fluid changes (at least) might be a good idea if longevity is expected.

As much I'm bummed about this anticipated expensive fix, I still love my Ranger and the 10R80 when it was in top shape...the design sure has it's flaws...looking forward to the brighter side when it's shifting right and I'm whole lot poorer lol...

For my own curiosity I start d reading up on this tonight. Came across a professional write up on our Transmissions. It’s strengths and Achilles heel. https://nextgendiesel.com/blogs/transmissions-101/ford-10r80-transmission-problems-solutions
Thanks for the link, Rick...will be reading this over..I wonder how much power this tranny can take considering it's in the 150...150 Raptor? I'm certain that I didn't break it through abuse...you can't baby a truck more than I do lol...
