I will add that you dont have to switch tunes for different octane either. It is set to run from 87 up to 93 octane!!
Do you use the normal tow tune or soft shift tow?

Wasn't aware of a soft shift for the tow tune. I went with what Livernois gave me and i never had an issue. Mind you I dont have the truck anymore

I used the normal tow tune yesterday and it feels similar to the regular performance tune on how it shifts. Soft shift is like soft shift performance.

Let me guess, you don't let the transmission learn before switching runs huh?

No I do. I still have the tow tune on. But there's still a noticeable difference between the soft shift tune. Soft shift doesn't feel jerky after installing. I'm waiting for it to get better.

You do realize that the 10R80 take up to 5,000 mile to learn right? The moment you change tunes it has to relearn because you took that learned info away

Correct. But you can still feel the differences between two.

Until you let it learn you will not know for sure
Correct which is why im sticking with it to see if I want to keep it.But from my experience in switching around, when I've done the other tunes, it smoothes out after a week or 2. I do a lot various driving similar to the checklist for the relearning process that i found on the forum. I haven’t stuck with original performance tune because it's annoying in traffic. The soft shift, never had a problem from the beginning.

Now I can say when I'm on stock. I don't have the problems people complain about. I was on stock for over 5k and drove perfectly fine early on. And when i flash it to stock, it smoothes out quickly. I did the performance soft shift and it was fine as well.

Looking into getting the Livernois tuner and have a few questions. Has anyone had any real serious issues daily driving with the 91-93 performance tune long term? I only drive my truck on weekends to and from the cottage snd to tow my 19' bass boat. I would switch to tow tune when towing. I do about 20k kms a year which is about 12000 miles. Has any one had ford deny warranty due to being tuned?

I ran the 91-93 tune for like 18 months until gas shot up north of $4 a gallon. Only problem I had was I was always spinning the rear tires. If I wanted to launch hard on a back road to get a nice 0-60 run I had to use 4wd. If I was creeping along an stomped it it would spin too. with the 89 tune I only get chirping when I stomp it from a crawl but it pulls much better than stock.

You're supposed to retune to a towing tune if you tow. I forgot twice an pulled a 800-1000 pound garden tractor in a 1600 pound trailer. Once for 2 hours once for 45 minutes. I'm guessing by "towing" they're talking some weight like 4K or more.

Some guys love the 89 tow tune for daily driving. I moves your torque down an holds rpm longer giving good daily performance at the loss of some peak numbers. You could contact them an ask about the weight of your boat an distance of the tow to see if you can get by with the performance tune for it.

Thanks for the info. I would definitely retune to the tow tune before towing as boat and trailer would be around 3500-4000lbs. Was more so worried about causing engine damage with the 91-93 tune as a daily with zero towing.
