Hi folks.....question for anyone who has installed the Revolver X4S bed cover. I recently installed mine and it came with 3 different bulkhead seals. I used the large rubber one (it has a "C" profile) per the included Ranger instructions. But, since the seal is so thick, the front end of the cover cannot lay down flat....it angles up about 5 degrees. I'm just wondering if that is normal, or did I use the wrong seal or goof somehow on the installation?

Thanks in advance.

Might have used the wrong seal. I wpuld take the other seals and put them up close to see if it might make a difference

It would definitely make a difference. But the instructions seemed pretty clear about which seal to use. I've also reached out to the vendor to see what they have to say.

Is there some hardware that is supposed to hold that end down?

I have one and I used the thick seal BUT it was a massive PIA installing it and since the tonneau broke within 2 weeks, I installed a replacement one. All told, I removed and reinstalled the side rails three times to get it right. The thing goes to within an eighth of an inch to the cab (on my SCAB) and I had the shim the heck out of all three clamp spots on each side. It kept angling the rails inward.

Once they were all shimmed, the front wasn't so lifted. The first two times, I could barely get those front nuts on the bolts of the cover itself. Once I shimmed them way out (like double and triple thickness of that corky-rubber spacer stuff) I then had plenty of room to get those nut things on.

Those side rails need to sit real square with the bed. The plastic top caps have a lot of space between them and the actual steel of the bed.

Even after all of that, the rear clamps still tend to twist the side rails inward a bit.

But, all of that to say, it's been good for a few months now and I love the cover (unless it gets wet and then freezes, pretty tough to roll).

I use it several times a week (like Saturday for a ... wait for it ... dump run!).

Thanks. I worked on it some more and it's better, but not perfect. I know what you mean about the side shims. I'm going to keep working on those. I'm using real plastic shims from Home Depot instead of the shim material included in the kit.

Let us know how you make out, I found it really frustrating but then gave in and spent several hours on it to try to get it just right.

I do love the cover and would get it again.

I also had the same issues as David had. I used the thick seal as well and the front of mine by the back window sounds the same as what yours is doing, maybe not as bad. I have learned to just live with it. I think in time it will smooth out better. Mine stays in the garage most of the time. Maybe if setting outside in the sun all the time it might smooth out also. Love the cover as well.

It was interesting when I talked to the Bak customer service folks. They told be that the vinyl (hard) part of the cover should not be resting on the bulkhead seal. They said only the front seal flap should be on top of the bulkhead seal. That doesn't work at all because it makes the cover extend beyond the locking latches in the rear. It is also inconsistent with the directions which say to line up the front vinyl edge of the cover with the front edge of the rail.

I think I've got it just about where I want it.....I'm just going to add a few more shims to level the top of the rail a bit more.

Thanks for all the replies.

I found with the Ford drop-in bedliner the medium was about perfect

Fitting the side rails is a tedious process. First, I had to cut the corners of the drop in bedliner to allow the BAK corner brackets to fit. Then I had to cut a relief in the bedliner to allow the side rails to fit far enough forward. I used the shims provided for the side rails by cutting them in half lengthwise. That let me install them more strategically along the total length of the bed. After that it went pretty well.

I too had shim side rail struggles. Part of my rear rollup has broken. It does freeze down easily. I’d look at a different option next time, but I keep vehicles a really long time.

Do you have a bed liner? If so, what type?

I don’t have the revolver but have the Bakflip which is fairly similar I think in terms of installation - I only had two seals that came with my cover. The thick one like you described and a 3/4 inch one. I have a Ford drop in liner as well (yeah I had to cut it out too to fit the rails) and I found the thicker one too thick as well. The 3/4 was too small
I went back to my dealer and he gave me 1” thick rubber seal that they use when installing canopies - perfect thickness for that gap. Maybe give that a try.

Pretty sure I used the thick one with my spray-in liner. No issues. These covers are finicky. I didn’t have to use any shims. I like it, would get it again.
