Just curious if the transmission issues people reported with previous years 10-speeds doing okay so far with their 2023's?

I gotta say, coming from a 4 speed auto to a 10 speed auto has been a learning curve...

It feels like it's always hunting for gear... And if the skinny pedal goes to the floor it feels like the tyranny drops and comes back together...

I was cruising along this evening at 26mph and it was in 6th gear... So strange.

Give it some time to break in. IIRC it's all over the place for about the first 1,000 miles or so then it'll start to smooth out. After that drop it in S mode, put it to the floor and hold on. ??

I was pulling into the highway this morning wondering why everyone was going so slow... I was already going 85...opps...

I felt like my transmission wandered a lot and lugged early on, but after about 5k miles I stopped noticing. Maybe it learned or I learned, but it’s mostly fine now. I do occasionally lock out gears 9 and 10 on country roads.

Since it's the exact same transmission, I'm going to guess there's no change.
I've read a lot of posts by people in these forums that run some other than factory tune that has made their transmission shift better. I was wondering if those with a 2023 are seeing the same issues as those with earlier year 5g's.
It's not unusual to be the same generation vehicle and the last year of a generation has most the bugs worked out.
You'll see across most all makes; first year of a generation has several issues (recalls), and the last year they've resolved most of them.

if I believed the mailer I got from some rando lawyer recently, I'd think my 2019 was a complete pile of garbage. but I don't believe that mailer.

transmission works just fine
Do you have a 2023?

Yes, you were one I was hoping would post in this thread; in that I know you have a 2023. :)

A bit off topic as I have a 2021, but I did notice a significant change in shift points when I last changed my oil. I had been using full synthetic and tried a synthetic blend (both Walmart SuperTech). The synthetic blend was noticeably more runny when pouring it in. Now my shift points are at somewhat higher RPM's (2300 vs. 1800) and seem a bit smoother. Given so much of the truck is dependent on firmware, I suspect many of the issues people experience are more firmware/algorithm related than hardware. I could see there being year to year firmware changes that we aren't aware of.

I have over 1K on mine and I run it in S mode a lot since D it's just too slow off the line. But in S mode, coming from a stop, it's in too low of a gear for too long, so I generally try to wait for it to upshift once or twice so it's not revving to the moon in first. I find this transmission to be a bit bi-polar.

I've seen lots of posts here about how the transmission sorts itself out over time, but I figure it's mostly that eventually your right foot figures out how to have the truck in the gear range that you want.

I've also had my truck decide that 30 in 7th was a good idea. (like cruising slowly in town) If I stomp the accelerator, it'll drop way down and get moving, but it's not smooth. After driving the truck for 18 months, I just know how much gas will get it where I really want it.

I've kinda zoned out and found myself lugging manuals in the past. They wouldn't have been smooth either if, I just decided to pop out of 4th, shift into second and go. I definitely had more control in my manual cars, but that's the compromise of the automatic. Overall though, the more I drive my Ranger, the more it seems to be where I want it.

^ I think this is a logical deduction.
.
And yet in addition to that, even if it's the same transmission, there could be some slight changes to the internals.
.
I guess I'll know soon enough in that I'll hopefully have my own 2023 this week.
I'll be sure to post my experience.
