Even if I had the locking diff it turns off at iirc 25mph. It's nice how quick the Ranger is with a tune but chasing power I think is better left to a second ride.
Yes... Mustang Mach 1...

My neighbor down the street has a beetle sitting in the yard. Grab that for a song, put a Subaru motor in, rebuild the suspension and go to town. Probably less than $8k all in...rather than pushing a $30k+ new truck to blow up. Or get a Busa!

Have a 1997 YZF 750R with custom built engine that's now too scary for me...

Tell me about it I've got a plate and five screws in my leg from wheelieing a Yahama R1 on the gsp. But there are easier and cheaper ways to go fast than modding a Ranger was my opinion.

Perhaps a performance turbo upgrade is needed to get another 25 HP.
If goal was to play on the street with the bigger Rams and Chevys... Perhaps run out a stock F150 3.5.... Not sure... Found out the new 2022 F150 XLT 4x4 is only 300 pounds heavier than the Ranger...
Buy an F-150? Sounds like an expensive, slippery slope when you could just buy 'better'.

If we are still talking about a straight line, I doubt that's an issue for any Ranger here.

I've got multiple fun/fast/track cars, so the thought of racing the Ranger isn't even a thing for me. I'll tune my Ranger, but that's it. I actually like how quiet it is.

Just an FYI. The locker doesn't turn off if you keep you foot in it. At least not according to the light.

If you drop the hammer from a stop and keep it floored the light will indicate it's engaged up to at least 80mph.

I just realized that I haven't even tried my locker yet... I only added it on to the build for that time where I wish I had it. :)

Bought a Ranger because I didn't want to spend $20K more for an F150...

That's where the slope gets slippery... You can easily spend $10-20k trying to reach these goals. I'm a bang-for-buck type of person. You can easily make more power, but eventually that curve turns exponential.

I came from a procharged 2016 track pak Mustang GT and many other sports cars prior. 5000+ lb trucks may be fun to drive with a torquey turbo motor but not the best platform for performance simplly because of weight.

That was my experience. You have to turn it off an let off the gas to allow it to disengage.

Trade your ranger in on a 2.7 ranger an throw the book at that motor!

IMO the ranger with a good tune will more than hold it's own an it will surprise a lot of people. You're never going to be king of the street but it will be fun an affordable.

Yes.... I agree... They do make a TRX with lots of HP... A Raptor too... But put down $100k+...
Was hoping to take the Ranger XLT 2.3 L at $42K to a mod up HP and suspension for $5K that could also be a street machine...but the Super Crew Ranger at approx 4500 pounds ...less than 300 lbs lighter than a 400 HP new F150... and pushing it to 400 HP to be playing with other trucks...Ram Hemi, Chevy 6.2L ... now doesn't make sense... Can't get there without 2.3 L engine overhaul to take the HP stress and ...spending way too many Benjamin's that would cause me stress !
Was a short dream... Guess I'll focus on affording a Mach 1 instead.

It's not just money on mods but you've got to pay for dyno runs before and after to see if you actually gained anything. Mods by themselves don't reach their full potential unless you get a custom tune that takes them into account. From what I can tell a bigger intercooler only really helps if you live in a hot climate. The stock intake and exhaust are already pretty low restriction and you've got to remember the engine is only 2.3 liters so any gains you're only going to see at high RPM anyway.
I had a Gibson and later a Flowmaster exhaust on my old Sport Trac and for now I'm enjoying the quiet. Gibson claimed 8 hp, I don't know that I felt it but highway mpg was definitely better than the EPA rating.
If I mat the throttle the back tire breaks loose at 30-35 mph when the boost comes on so that's plenty fast for me.
A tune, K&N drop-in, and an exhaust are about it for efficient use of your money. The law of diminishing returns kicks in rapidly after that.
