The rears doors have a white key slot for the childproof lock. The front & rear doors also have a black key slot. What are the black slots for? I am not seeing any mention of it in the owners manual.

if I'm correct, it allows you too manually move the door latch to open, in case it was ever to get out of sync. (Think-Door closed and latched) but door physically open, insert key in this slot and turn and it springs back to open, most cars have it but usually it's just a flat blade screwdriver slot

Hi Folks,

So I got out my Shop manual cd...here is what it says

The power lock/unlock feature locks or unlocks the doors upon a customer request from a door lock control switch, the passive entry system (if equipped) or a RKE transmitter. Driver door can also be locked manually using the mechanical access opening just above the door latch.

If equipped, the passive entry feature automatically locks or unlocks the doors and the tailgate latch.

So it is a mechanical way to lock the door if the power door locks are inoperative. So case of the Thang is solved in my mind...

Best,

It adjusts damper tension
If a person requires a damper to help lower that gigantic, heavy tailgate do you think they'll have enough upper body strength to actually be able to turn that little slot? Lol

Thanks RedlandRanger & Jason B for the info. After reading Phil Schilke's explanation, I realized there's no push/pull door lock knobs visible anymore.

No, it's a different slot. Why would you need a child safety lock on the driver's door? As Phil said, it's for manually locking the doors if the door actuator fails. We are talking about the solenoid/motor that locks/unlocks the doors. Not the fob or door switches.
