I believe Ford changes their Michigan Assembly plant production line sometime in mid-October for the next model year production run.

The order for my '20 Lariat was placed on 8/18/19 with the dealer and was submitted to Ford on 8/26/19 and was assembled on 11/19/19, the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.

My dealer transmits special and stock orders just once a month, hence the 8 day delay in the order actually being transmitted to Ford.

All told, it took exactly 5 months (to the day) from the time I personally placed the order to the day I took delivery.

Hang in there, I am almost certain your new Ranger will be a 2022
I just watched Tim Bartz weekly video at Long McArthur ford saying if you have a vin, you are getting a 2022MY vehicle. I was told from the initial contact with my dealer it could be 9 months for delivery.

I was lucky that it took just 5 months, in comparison to an eternity like 9, however my delivery date was 1/18/20, before Covid-19 became a pandemic and the resulting labor shortage/global supply shortages.
My very first new car, a '79 Mercury Capri took 7 months to arrive in HNL, but that was because of a rail transport snafu which had it destined for Mexico...

You make us proud Michael. Just don't betray the family like your loser brother Fredo.
It was something.
Contacted my sales guy, told him I wanted out and my deposit back. I was done. This was the last straw and F Ford. He said no problem and gave me his GM's email address, saying I had to pull that trigger. He could not do it. The customer had to.
I sent the email. Boom! Done! I was free of this truck forever.

Then did an online search finding a new '22 Colorado Z71 4x4 for a reasonable amount. Called the dealer to make sure it was still on the lot. It was and they would even knock a couple of grand off the sticker because they wanted it gone. (High end truck, leather all the bullshit)
Sure, it didn't have the offroad chops of the FX4, but I no longer cared as the only off roading I ever do is 6" of snow on the road. Just needed a truck.
By this time a couple of hours passed since I freed myself with that email, grabbed my keys and was on the way out the door to go buy a Chevy.

The phone rang as I was walking out the door. It was the Ford dealer's General Manager.
We talked for quite a bit, and he made promises and concessions. The Doc fee drama was over.
I'm a sucker. Also, really fond of hot pepper red.
Fvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvck...
Hung my car keys back on the cabinet hook.

Yep, the wife put the hammer down....., again. We all knew he wasn't going anywhere.
A dealer making promises and concessions. Hopefully that call was recorded @DonB, or you got an email from the dealer with the details of the changes in print. That way you can rest easier knowing that they will honor those changes and concessions. When you are driving that truck all this will be forgotten.

Nope, didn't get a bit of it on tape or in an email but I'm not really worried about it because they know I will walk away in a heartbeat. I'm not married to any sheet metal.
