Lots of posts, but i di not see this specifically in my search.
I have a 21 4x4 XL with the STX package, my truck came with the Factory 18" Wheels and 265/60R18 Tires

I have been wanting to swap wheels and tires, and there does not seem to be near as many choices in the 18" size

If is swapped to 17" Wheels and switched to 285/60R17 tires, which should be the same OD, there should be no issues?

I'd like to know too as I'm considering switching to 17" wheels with 265/70/17

Assuming you get wheels with enough offset to clear that wide of a tire, I couldn't imagine you'd have any issues. That said, thats an odd tire size that I don't recall seeing anyone on here use so you might be in uncharted territory on that one.

You'd need to recalibrate your speedometer, but factory 17" wheels would work just fine. Its the setup I'm running right now.

Sorry, I am new at all this tire stuff. basically i am looking for an equivalent OD and thickness , but with a 17 wheel. How do i know what offset my wheels have?

Would the 17 wheel and tire size from an stock FX4 be compatible?

That's why i was gonna go with 285's, they would be the same OD, so no speedometer calibration and not revving faster for a smaller tire

I went factory 18"s - wheels and tires to factory 17"s = wheels and tires. And did not change anything regarding the speedo calibration.
Pretty sure I never noticed it not matching my GPS - but will double check

Yes the 17" factory wheel and tire would be a direct swap, no further tinkering required.

You should be fine then so long as the overall diameter is the same. I had to redo mine jumping to a 265/70/17 (about 1-1.5" taller overall), it was off by about 5mph at 60.

IIRC now that I think about it the actual diff in diameter between stock 17 and 18 is like 1mm!

I believe factory is +55
This is correct, both the 17"and 18" stock wheels.

I have 18" black appearance package wheels and 17" sport appearance package wheels (which I use for my snow tires). IMHO, I like the look of 17s better. I think more rubber showing looks better. Also, in stock sizes, the 17" tires are a one or two tenths of an inch taller in diameter, but it is noticeable ;)
