Why does the forum call the '19+ Ranger 5G when it's 4G everywhere else?

So this has bugged me since I joined the site back in 2019 when I got my 2019 FX4. I now have a 2022 Tremor, but anyhow here is what have been wondering all these years...

When you look other places on-line the 1983-1992 is considered Gen 1, 1993-1997 Gen 2, 1998-2012 Gen 3, and 2019+ Gen 4. Of course there was a face-lift done in 1989 on the Gen 1 and I assume this site considers that a Gen 2, but everywhere else it's just considered a Gen 1 face-lift. The 1998-2012 also received face-lifts along the way, but all Yuma platform Rangers with the SLA front are Gen 2 or I guess here they would be Gen 3.

Anyhow not a huge deal, but I have always wondered who made the call on what generation is what. I assume the people who started the site, but it is sort of confusing when going around the web.

I always looked at 2nd gen as '89 to '92. ?

I mean you could say the same about '87 to '96 F-series, but there are 2 generations there.

So, if your Dad is a Baby Boomer, and you're Gen X, but you get a facelift in your 40's to look younger, do you become a Millennial?

Vehicle generations are about major platform changes, not cosmetic tweaks to "re-freshen" the brand to extend the sales life, before the introduction of the next gen.

Yeah, I got into it with someone on another Ranger message board that I’ve belonged to for 20 years who insisted my truck is a Gen 6. My take is that 89-92 is still a Gen 1 since aside from the grille there are few differences, mechanically pretty much the same, even the cabs and beds interchange with 83-88.

nice Baron in your pic, that yours?

Thanks, yes, many moons ago now. It was a P-Baron, a cream puff I stumbled upon just by luck (they didn’t make many).

That picture was taken at Truckee Airport, hence the desire for turbo and pressure.

A younger wife (younger back then, never had a “younger” wife ;)) and our rescue one eyed poodle, Poochie,

Is owning a plane like a boat in that your two happiest days are the day bought and the day sold?

So like everything it depends on how you classify things if you are looking at the ranger as a whole not just the na spec then it is the 5th gen but if you are specifically looking at the us spec you would be right
