5K service? What is that? I only see 10k service intervals in the manual. Are you just doing the first oil change early?
You know, when the dealer gets you in for an oil change and tire rotation, and tries to sell you all sorts of other stuff. I just went to the appointment they made for my 5K service and told them not to do any of the "service" and to fix the two issues I have :)

I'd still change your oil before 5K, but after the first one go 7500 at least with good oil.

You are correct, but some people have an oil changing fetish. Just let them do their thing and don't worry about it.

Yes, I know...habits started when cars ran on turpentine and bacon drippings are hard to change. :giggle:

From engineers I've talked to, the change oil gauge is the BEST way to gauge when to change your oil, as the computer knows what kind of use the engine is getting and it all factors into when it tells you to change it. Changing it slightly sooner than posted won't hurt anything, but what I've been told is it doesn't buy you anything either. Modern engines and oil really are an engineering masterpiece.

I agree that Modern engines and oil are an engineering masterpiece . .. then I see post about adding oil cans I begin to wonder. I am sure that the engineers added a fudge factor and I know that the Europeans think Americans are nuts to change the oil every 7K miles. . . But I would rather be early than late. :) this is the last truck I plan on buying, so I will do maintenance a little early :) Maybe P. A. Schilke will comment on this :)

I remember the 3k mile changes. I have always followed the manufacturer's recommendations. Have never had an engine failure. 5k mile changes on my 1998 Escort, when indicated (varies between 7k and 10k miles) on my Taurus (now has 120k miles). Will change in the ranger when it tells me to.

If you haven't seen the tear down video of the 10 speed transmission, it is worth a watch - assuming you like looking at the internals of mechanical stuff. That transmission is a work of art. It is amazing to me. I think some rocket scientists worked on it. :)

I've had some engines that have had problems (because they were engines known to have problems) and many more engines that haven't had problems (because they were reliable engines) all following the recommended maintenance interval. My conclusion: sometimes shit happens and changing your oil every time you fill the gas tank isn't going to prevent it.

If I push the +/- button on the shifter stem when the truck is in D, I get the gears 1 - 10 on the right screen (Lariat). I’ve noticed the trans skips some gears when building speed. I’ve been trying to find the sweet smooth spot while accelerating. So far, it’s kinda choppy. I’m super sensitive after having a bad injector which caused horrible hesitation at low speeds. I think I’m feeling the transmission hunting for the right gear. I notice the shudder around gears 4,5, and 6. Anybody else feeling this?

I feel that what I was noticing as a miss was actually hunting for a gear due to turbo lag.

Whatever it was it is almost nonexistent since I added the GFB Diverter valve.
Occasionally I still feel a miss, mostly when cold but I think that’s fuel mapping or as you mentioned a fuel injector.
I’ve never had a CEL.

But the valve has really smoothed out the shifting and overall running. 3k miles.

I mentioned this elsewhere but if you take the stock part out and lube it, then see if you feel a difference. Stock is plastic, the GFB DV is brass and much better quality.

My experience is identical to yours. Shuttering under light acceleration and braking. How is your transmission doing? A part of the shuttering for me is the transmission shifting roughly. For example when braking/coasting up to a stop light the downshifts are harsh and make the truck jolt a bit. Lightly accelerating up a hill seems to keep the transmission from downshifting, so it chugs with rpms too low then finally decides to slam into a lower gear. I have over 6k miles on it.

My main concern is taking the time to take it to a dealership only to have them say "unable to duplicate problem" even though there is a TSB for it.
I have this exact same issue. Anyone find a solution?

I left my truck overnight at the dealership, so that they could replicated the situation. One week after they told me just drive it and that there where no TSB's on my truck; all of a sudden there WAS a TSB. Even though I never had a CEL, it did have stored codes this time. What I think the problem is, is an out of spec injector, I think the TSB adjust the pulse width on the bad injector when it's cold to put an electronic band aid on a mechanical issue. My truck is now better, but not fixed. Now it only has a dead miss for the first 1000 feet in the morning instead of the first 2 miles.I will have to take it in once or twice or three times again until they decide to actually replace the bad injector.

Push the - button and you can lock out gears too. I lock out 9 and 10 on my drive to work. I don’t know if it skips lower gears when doing this or if it adjust the shift points between 1 and 8. It seemed to smooth out some of my lower speed parts of the drive.
