Sadly the reason for that is the motor… that 3.5 is a camry motor so it drives like a old Honda you need to rev the piss out of it and it will move buuut if it’s an auto good luck!
Kind of sounds like my 2021 Jeep Wrangler (pentasutar V6), but I had the 6spd. Unfortunately the clutch flywheel combo made an automatic the only sane choice in that vehicle.

Reminds of a song…
Prednisone all in my brain
Lately things don't seem the same
Actin' funny, but I don't know why
'Scuse me while I kiss the sky
I loved that guy, what a freaking talent.

see ive driven both the auto and manual in the 3.6 and the manual was by far my fav of the two i seemed to have better control and a bit more fun with the manual and tbh if i would have found a 6spd rubi before my ranger id have one of them...

I feel so strongly about how bad that flywheel/over center clutch design was when paired with the sewing machine like spin of the Pentastar V6, I was was going to do one of those in your face YouTube clip posts of guys dead stuck in the rocks and unable to extract themselves with a Jeep that keeps stalling over and over, but then I thought, geez, if the guy likes it, count your blessings Bill, because if there weren’t a few of you out there, I would have never sold that JL (which was a peach, but still).

If you prefer it good on you, somebody’s got to buy the <15% of the manual JL’s jeep is making today. I freaking hated it, and I much prefer a manual gearbox in general.

Like I said, I am glad somebody likes them, honestly, when I bought it (I found it on the lot and was really excited as I really wanted a 6spd), the salesman who sold it to me was frank about it. He said, “it takes a specific kid of person to sell the manual wrangler to, we only take them because we have to.”

If you ever decide to buy one, definitely don’t pay MSRP. If you will buy a 6spd, they won’t tell you, but they will sell a 6spd for at least a couple of K less than a comparable auto. Mine ended up about 3K less than the same one would have been in an auto, at the time I bought mine, they weren’t discounting the autos at all, fulll stop.

The MSRP on my 2021 Rubicon Unlimited V6 6-spd was like $43K (now I wish I hadn’t thrown that file away). It was a pretty spartan equipped Rubicon as I planned to do it myself, cloth top, black cloth seats, not many packages (maybe none). It had sat for a long time on the lot and they actually were dropping it price wise about every two weeks a grand. I watched for a few price drop cycles, test drove it (love is blind) and then came in for the final price negotiations. They were thrilled I bought it. Honestly.

They are out there and I think the crazy times of pricing are about to come to an end. A year from now, if your buddies still have solid jobs, they likely will have the pick of the litters and remind them of what we talked about. ;)

Oh, I screwed up the messsge, I was talking about what we talked about with regard to the more flexibly price for the 6spd.

Don’t get me wrong, the Jeep is still king of the rated trails in my mind. The bronco may be the new king of the trail one day, probably just not this day. ;)

Resale value is important in a vehicle you can't wait to get rid of...

This is the biggest issue I have with the 3rd gen, well, the seating is weird too but I havn't tried one with the power seats so that may be fixed.

A truck engine needs torque down low to get loads moving and not something you have to rev to the moon.

The old Toyota 4.0 had plenty, the 3.5 has little.

In the end it just comes down to preferences.

Anyone on here could've bought a Tacoma if they wanted it and anyone on the Tacoma boards could've bought a Ranger.

Or we all could've even bought Canyorados

Well said.

And when he got on the throttle there was a lot of noise but little acceleration. I seriously doubt he even considered a Ranger. One step on the throttle could have changed his mind.
That is the #1 reason I was immediately turned off from the Tacoma. Most sluggish vehicle I've probably ever driven. It would drive me nuts to put 100-200-300K on a vehicle that had zero pep.
