Do you have any tips on removing the top of the console. Which end did you pop first.

To remove the top of the console off I had to first remove the lower dash panel piece that has the two 12 volt sockets. There are two screws holding that piece in place and to get to the screws, I had to remove the lower dash panel pieces on either side. Just pull those straight back and they come off. Once those three pieces were removed, I started prying up the top of the console around the gear shift lever. Itā€™s all held in place by plastic clips, no screws. I also had to move the shifter out of park to lift it completely out. All in all it was pretty easy. I took my time and used plastic panel tools to pry the pieces so I didnā€™t scratch or damage anything.

Nice, clean install I think Iā€™ll do the same, I like the placement better than up on the dash
Is how I wanted to install mine but didn't have the inclination or patience to deal with the reinforced backing. Nice install!

The reinforced backing actually wasnā€™t that hard to deal with. I just scored the base of the rib with a razor then pried at the rib carefully with pliers. I used a small file to clean it up a bit to make a nice flat surface for the Redarc switch to sit on. It went surprisingly well. I was slightly nervous because Iā€™ve only had my truck for five days and I have under 100 miles on it. :whew:

I thought I would share my installation of the Redarc brake controller. I decided to install it on the center console behind the 4x4 selector knob. It seemed like the cleanest location to install in my opinion.

I found the four wires under the dash on the left side behind the fuse panel.

I attached the wire harness from the stock Redarc brake controller.

This is the pic after connecting the Redarc wire harness.

I then removed the top of the center console and installed the control knob

This is the final install. In my opinion it is in the best location. Clean and factory looking. Thank you to all the previous posters to this thread. Without it I wouldnā€™t have had the courage to do this install.

Does anyone know if you could run a wire from blue wire coming from redarc to this connection right before 7 way plug? Right now I am connected to black/ green wire and have no brake power at 7 way pin for trailer brake but when you push in redarc button I have power on both sides of splice connection. Had ford dealership check and they didnā€™t know either, said they were waiting for Ford corporate to get back with them.

Completed my install late last week. Thanks to all who came before me..... Most helpful!

It was a pain in the butt to work on the footwell and my wiring harness had very little slack. But, successful install and everything is working perfectly!
I am glad you mentioned it. I also had a time with the connections due to little slack available. But, only had to do it once, and it is done.

I concur! Working in the footwell was a PITA! Would a few more inches of slack killed Ford's bottom line?

Any problem unplugging components from under the console ? Think that's the way I am headed. Like the clean look.

No, there was plenty of slack on all the wire connections that made it easy pull the panels and disconnect the wires.

Thanks . Just got mine. I really like the looks on your install. This will give me a chance & reason to use my plastic panel removal tools. I am being proactive. Trailer is in the near future. I have been following this thread for which I greatly appreciate all the info. I have already located the wires & have them accessible. Do not plan on doing to much more in this 100 + degree weather since I do not need it. I have already experimented, in some plastic I have, to determine the correct size of drill bits for the holes. Actually made a template. Will post photos of the install in the future.
