Suggestions on grit to shave plastic.

I am going to be shaving my fender vent badge lettering very soon what would you guys recommend as the lightest grit sandpaper to start with. I'd rather go slow and steady then melt s*** or over penetrate.

it will probably get melty after you sand it a whille , might have to cool it , fridge if you have them off...

basically what you would use for wet sanding new paint to get rid of orange peel etc.

Wet sand and change paper more often than not. 400 grit and do yourself a favor and don’t try to stretch out the use of sand paper. You want a controlled cutting action..

Hmmm, curious to see what you are working on.
ABS melts and gums things up pretty easily. I used to use a Dremel, but it seemed too aggressive. I just use 120 for the first pass. Then 180 once I want to slow things down. Then jump to 400 > 600. On my F-150s, some of the lettering was metallic. That took the Dremel and wire wheel to rough up. Not sure if that is the case with the Ranger. I then use JB Weld as a filler.





I am tackling this sometime in the next few weeks. Going to bother me to see the truck missing trim for a few days.
Plan to fill in all the gaps and paint the middle magnetic to match the border. Maybe a red accent. Had these printed up a while ago.

I am fairly certain that the lettering on the fender vents is just injection molded plastic
