MPG During Our Road Trip

I'm starting to think I've got the wrong motor in my Ranger. lol We're 2 weeks into our trip and I have 7 fill ups so far and my worst mpg has been 24.4 and the best has been 26.3. This is going through many different elevation changes starting out in AZ at around 1000' and have been as high as 11,000' driving 75-85 mph. Before heading out I was expecting to get somewhere in the 22-23 mpg range so this is a bonus. Premium gas prices have been averaging around $5.25/gal and I just checked my Gas Buddy app and back in AZ it's already up to $6.23! Another reason we're NOT looking forward to going home. :curse:

I suspect he's getting someone to push him up to those high areas, and then he coasts down, thus giving unusually high mpg readings !!! :like:
no need. he is running 93 octane, and driving smart. I have topped off my tank with 87 octane, and drove 40 miles at 40mph with very little start/stop. average MPG 29mpg. and at times it went over 32mpg, but a couple of start stops and that drops quickly.

country living is great. I don't even mind the farm animals.

thats good! my first fill up on my ranger i hit 22mpg but made it 373 miles before i ran out so not to bad

I'm in Texas, but when I travel to Oklahoma, I get similar fuel mileage because they have options for Ethanol Free gasoline that doesn't have high price mark-ups. You might be getting Ethanol Free gas even if you are not selecting it.
I saw a pump that had E-Free in Wyoming but I didn't use it. Everywhere else had regular pumps and I'm almost positive they had ethanol.

Maybe that Liver. tune is helping out a bit, I have never come close to that. My absolute best I think was 22-23mpg doing 70mph on a trip to CA. I was happy about our 12.2mpg towing back from CA to NV 2 weeks ago. The drive back is usually harder on mpg than the drive there, but going there we had such bad headwinds we were under 8mpg around the 1/3 mark.

I have seen others mention the Ford tune gave them better mpg too. Who knows
When I installed the tune I noticed a small gain around town. I normally don't do a lot of highway driving back home but now traveling we're doing 80-90% highway. I just thought with larger tires, 2.5" lift and the tune that was darn good mileage especially seeing I'm averaging 75-85 mph.

I have a damper and regularly get 26mpg on highway runs. As long as I keep it under 70. A run to far west Texas were the speed limit is 85... Not so much. The power of the damper can't overpower the effects of aerodynamics.

I'm averaging 24-26 MPG driving the South east Ohio and West Virginia hills and mountains.
It can be done, drive the speed limit #1, don't let the truck sit and warm up or cool down. I let mine run long enough for it to idle down.
I've tried the start stop last 2 tanks- I think it helps
Put a cover on the bed- MPG prior to that was high 23's. After lowest was 24. something and up to 26.
