Serious question. Wouldn't that mean the tailgate is supported by the damper and not the cable on that side?

I don't have a damper and don't intend to get one. Not for He-Man or ego reasons, but because I only open it about once a month.
Before installation, the driver’s side cable was tight and the passenger side was slightly loose.

After installation, it switched sides.

I just walked out to look, and if I even slightly lean on the driver side of the tailgate that side of the cable goes tight as well.

Can a damper be installed on the passenger side ? If yes , will the extra weight correct my "lean" ? If yes, take my money !

The instructions say installing on passenger side may result in tailgate falling off! Seriously!

I voted no, but I did actually buy one and installed it, but took it back off once the weather got cold...that thing squealed like a stuck pig. People in the Lowes parking lot actually cringed. It's not going back on.
It's not the damper, it's the bushings in the tailgate hinge.

You can either spray something in there, or do what I did which was remove the tailgate (easy to do) and put some Silglyde silicone brake lube on them.

Problem solved.

The passenger side is where the hinge is slotted is for removing the tailgate.

I guess they're afraid the tailgate may pop out of the notch when opening.

be careful where you use it. It burns. So I’ve been told.

Nope, it's the damper...I removed it in the Lowes parking lot and the crying and moaning stopped.
It stopped because the hinge was no longer vibrating, causing the resonance in the hollow tailgate.

Mine was bellowing like a wounded ox.

First time it happened to me I was scared it was the damper. But a shot of silicone lube took care of it. It first happened right after it rained here (which is rare) and it must have turned the dust to mud in the bushing. It sounded like a creaky old barn door opening. lol

One of the reasons I chose the Ranger is the lack of a tailgate damper. I find them annoying and slow.

Fight me.
Agree that sort of thing would be annoying, just this afternoon a friend showed me the swing out storage container he installed in his Ranger, that didn't bother me but when I saw he also installed a damper - that got my panties in a knot.
