Wow, that is a beautiful truck.

I can do the work myself (3 6' roll around tool boxes... ;)), with the exception of the alignment, which I actually have the tools to do (decades of road racing), but just isn't worth the work compared to the cost of having professionals do it for me. You got to draw the line somewhere. :)
Yep and thanks!

Reasons why I didn't purchase the tremor or fx4.

I don't do too much offloading so I knew the tremor was out of the question. Didn't care for leather seats.

They didn't have the fx4 in stock so I went with a sport mode. Regardless of I had gotten the fx4 I still would have purchased fox shocks and struts($1100)

What I did to my sport 4x4.

-Leveled it with fox 2.0 struts and shocks(1100)
-Replaced tires with wrangler duratracs and Went up tire size(1100)
-Installed terrain management switch(100)
-had rear diff locker from package

The only thing the fx4 has that mine doesn't is the skid plates. Love my sport.

Great truck and excellent logic.

How do you like the Duratrac's? I had them on our 1/2 ton 4x4 pickup and they were maybe the best tire I ever had on a truck with the exception of the road noise. On that big old truck (they were big tires) those things started out loud and just got louder. The good news was traction in any conditions was A+ and they wore like iron.

OK, I think I may have come to a solution that will solve my dilemma. I think I am going to go with the Tremor and just get some light colored seat covers. We do enough off roading (mostly what we do with the truck, other than every day hauling) that all the off road bells and whistles will be welcome, if a bit overkill. I won't get the auto-start stop delete I was so happy about, so I will have to foil it one of the other ways (if gas goes to $10 a barrel, who knows, I might actually want it, although my oil stocks will be up so high, maybe I won't care. :))

I know myself well enough that if I go the FX4 route, I will end up turning that FX4 into a Tremor anyway and in the end, I will have paid a big premium, just to get some light colored leather in the cab. Light colored fabric (with foam backing in the case of Carhartt) will keep temps under control and I will have a truck more than one person might want when the time comes to sell it.

The dealer had a White Tremor coming in May (if it isn't already sold in the interim) and while I likely won't get as good a deal on it, I probably will make up the difference in out of pocket upgrades to get the FX4 where I would want it and in resale.

Thanks to all that have helped school me on the differences of the models and what each choice means.

Now comes the call the the salesman, I promised him I wasn't going to change the order any more. The good news is he is a really good natured guy, so far... :)

Do you have a build thread? I would love to hear all you did and what you thought of it.
Great looking truck. Looks like my twin. I'm running the Ford Performance Fox 2.0.

Disable ASS with forscan. Best thing you can do. If you have questions on it message me. There is a whole topic on here for it. Pretty simple. While your at it, activate a few other things.

I love them, man. I've had them on my jeep prior so I've had plenty of exp with them. The biggest size I've run is 33s. The noise doesn't bother me.i don't even hear them to be honest. Great tire for both on road and offroad and they look killer.

+1 I disabled my Tremors ASS in foreskin. No issues with it coming back on or warnings.

The primary reason I ordered the FX4 over the Tremor was the Bone colored interior. We frequent some pretty hot high desert locations and lighter is better for everything in that environment. I have read enough that the Tremor is a no brainer upgrade compared to the FX4, but the "any color seats you want, as long as they are black" made me take the detour. There are other things I like about the Lariat/FX4 starting point over the Tremor like no shin scraper steps and no red gills in the grill, but those things really aren't major items one way or the other.

I do think there is value in using the Ford engineering to get closer to the off road manners of the Tremor, that is why I am trying to understand the technical differences versus the marketing jargon. I will upgrade to something closer to the Tremor over time, I just like to separate the real bits from the marketing jargon, before I start. ;)

Anyway, thanks for the insights, I like your truck a lot.
Thank you and+1 on bone interior. Look forward to hearing about your new truck.

What has not been said in this thread yet is the fx4 package stock is pretty good off road on its own right and more than enough capable for most offroad use. Its only weakness is the Hankooks if you crawl it IMO, which tires will need to be replaced anyway eventually.

100% agree. @Stage3Motorsports proved it in their review video before they started their overland build. I think the current popularity of overlanding and the resulting aftermarket boom as fueled the idea that everything needs to modified in order to be any good. @RoadBoss has proven that these trucks are extremely capable off the lot even in their most stripped down stock form. He gets into places WAY more remote and challenging than I'll ever attempt.
