They hold it up though using their gas power contained within

Your tg damper doesn't function that way.
You're right. It provides a force opposite of gravity, slowing it's descent. And, there's only one. It works harder than a hood strut.

To qualify as a strut though, wouldn't it need to add some more "structure" to the tailgate?
Hi RP,

Yeah....terminology implies added bracing or structure....The hood supports should be called gas springs, JMO....

Best,
Phil

That's awesome - when my arms are full and I don't want the tailgate to slam down I'm happy I did this little mod too.

You'll find the members of this forum are somehow derisive of the tailgate damper mod but I'm pretty sure it's just a joke.

My daughters and wife appreciate the damper as well, it's civilized!

So I pretty much did the install on this. Hubby had to help a little.

A pic and a short video! Pretty proud of myself!!

cost reduction.....
Oh, I realize it was just Ford cheeping out on something. My point is if these were there for "structure" and the hood needed these to hold it together like the cross braces under the hood they wouldn't have been deleted. Those cross braces are there for structure and to keep the hood square and add strength. Either I have a different definition of structure or to much Jack Daniels tonight.

My very favorite part of this thread is that it took a member named Glock Girl to come up with a name that doesn't make the damper sound as wimpy; it's not a damper - it's a strut!
Damper owners, strut your stuff!

The tailgate is not to heavy f9r me but it's nice that I can pop it and let it glide down.
Dont forget to lube it regularly, and dont expose it to cold, and dont use it very often.

Other wise you may end up with a squeak, extra slow moving, or weak old man arms.

Not girly arms those can still shoot straight. But weak old man arms.

/Note sacarsm and laughter may be in the above statement.
