Hey guys, anyone that has the factory hood struts.

I have acquired a pair for my 2022, but wanted to check if there's any installation tidbits that I should consider. (pics of your strut would be greatly appreciate too. :) )

Does the paint need to be removed from the balls, or did Ford leave the paint on and just slap them on?

Guessing the balls need a shot of lithium grease?

Strut body side goes downwards?

Etc.

Thanks in advance.

Grease shouldn't hurt anything, so I'd do it. I don't think removing the paint would be needed. If there's a friction issue, the strut will remove the paint for you :)

No signs of grease
Ford just slaps them on the painted mounts
Body side down

Your 22 has the ball mounts? my blend date was 020222 and mine does not :(

LB
Yeah, I got really lucky. Blend date of 1/27/2022. Must have been nearly the end of the hood supply with balls installed.

Hah. My truck has balls. ?

I think of all the deleted items , the hood struts are the worst ... cheapens the whole damn truck. . . I guess they saved 30 bucks over the price of the prop rod , if that ...

Roush makes these for Mustangs with prop rods - maybe Jack should be thinking about these for the Ranger as well.

Or, they might be able to be placed in just the right spot. Hmmmmm.

My 2022 has the mounts installed as well. I have the struts on order (backordered to be more specific). I had planned to remove the paint and lube, but hearing that others that came with it OEM didn't have the paint removed or any lube added, maybe just snap them on (that is, if they ever actually get here. :(

In all the years I’ve owned a Ranger so for 38 years I don’t ever remember any Rangers with hood lift/struts just a prop rod!

Yeah but it's nice, and expected, to have in 2022.. just like electric windows for instance. The idea is to go forwards, not go backwards. I'm still vexed about not having the shift selector lights. My 2000 honda civic had it lol, wtf?

Well the new criteria for ANY future truck I buy will be hood struts at a bare minimum, key fob opening and closing both ends is my sweet spot...

I think the lack of hood lifts is more product positioning than anything else. When the day comes that the hood opens to auxiliary storage, the struts will be back. :)
