This truck goes bat shit when you push the brake and gas down at the same time. I bet this would be tons of fun to swap /sarcasm. Dollars to headache vs. fun I would think swapping a stick into it would be a better goal than the 2.7 IMO.

That said; still looking for a solid shell to do an idiotic swap on an older car right now. Wayyyy easier in early obd2 (especially before variable vale timing showed up in everything) or older. Did it on a slightly newer model so I know we can pull off the older one - the 97-99 is a more direct swap to include ECM plug and play on the wiring harness. Hyundai Accent with the 2.0 Tiburon/Elantra motor + 16g with a mild build to get about the same power as the Ranger but 1/4 the weight. Nice little weirdo sleeper... with cheap parts! (Why? Spent a good bit of time in Korea and have a ton of experience working on them) One of the reasons I just went extended warranty instead of making the Ranger go faster. Going back to a project car vs a slightly better daily. Ill keep the truck as near stock and pull the project around when I break it.

A 4BT is a glorified forklift motor, there's nothing to them, mechanical everything, emissions will be tough since the truck is so new not sure how that will work til the truck is older BUT I have seen a few 90's-00's Rangers running 4BTs and Kubotas.
I have owned several diesels. They do not scare me....plus with an engine swap 4bt I won't need to worry about emissions
In my state. Even if tagged as a classic, you cannot remove emissions equipment legally. Meaning a swapped in motor must have a minimum of the same emissions equipment as the vehicle originally came with.

Not sure how that goes if switching from gas to diesel.

"IF" I were to replace the Eco-Boost in my own Ranger, I think I'd find someone in Aussie land, to build me a Barra. Even with a stock bottom end, 600 HP is well within reason. A bit more work and 1K worth is possible.

There is a Mustang (2015?) running at the drag strip in Lubbock, TX (about 200 miles east of me). Any Mustang which runs in the high 10s, using a Barra four liter, sounds like fun to me.

If I remember right there are some federal laws about selling a car that has any emissions system removed or disabled. Like, massive fines. Don't remember the details and can't be bothered to google it atm.

Barras are sweet.

Hard to beat the sound of an inline 6 with a big turbo. But swapping a Barra into something here? You've just severely limited your ability to build and maintain it here.

'Yote is much more accessible in the States.

Of course there are.

But most individuals don't worry about that. The epa isn't knocking on anybodies door to make sure their terminator swapped into an early 80's Fox body has a smog pump. Yet.

I am with several others that if I were to change anything on my Ranger I'd do a stick swap (out of a mustang, most likely)...I'd be tons of fun to row my own on that 2.3 turbo!

The 2.7, 3.5 or 5.0 should be a relatively straight forward swap to someone with experience working with swaps. Getting the bcm and ecm to talk is relatively easy as long as the donor and recipient are of the same electronic generation. I'd go the 5.0 route just for giggles. All the emissions could stay intact with any of these.

I'd be surprised if they make a decade til you hear of sticking injectors, carbon buildup, oil consumption ect cool truck to own for a few yrs but not a long lasting one. 10R80 GM colab is a pos I've never heard a transmission make so many awful noises, miss gears, choose the wrong gear, slip ect lots of bad rep on the trans.
Sounds like you is ready for a Tacoma bud.

I would agree with others that it is possible, but from an article I read, Ford is making the 6G Ranger 2 inches wider to fit the 2.7 Ecoboost.
and here I thought that extra 2 inches was so you can load a 4x8 sheet of plywood in the bed lol

Well then, be prepared to be surprised instead of disappointed. :giggle:

How many people have over 100k on one of these trucks with a gas 2.3L & 10speed probably not many. The problems down the road are unknown. In the past other brands I’ve worked on with DI have tons of issues, not trolling but I’ve never become a fanboy of any product just because I drive it or own it. If the truck proves me wrong I sure hope so as I bought it outright and was hoping to get a solid 5yrs out of it.
