Not surprising. Expect to see this more often from all manufactures in the future.

https://www.motor1.com/news/554620/toyota-subscription-fee-remote-start/

"It’s happening, folks - the automakers are starting to ask monthly or yearly subscription fees for some of its features that can be enabled or disabled over the air through software manipulation. There are several examples, including BMW’s temporary Apple CarPlay subscription and Audi’s navigation function that comes at a monthly fee, and now Toyota is taking things to the next level."

I'm confused by your post. Are you saying that Ford now has a subscription for GPS functions such as Nav?

if you need to vent, vent.

This info was out there before you made the purchase. You are still allowed to not be happy about it.

There are a number of navigation apps that work offline. My personal favourite was Navigon. And after purchasing several upgrades… they stopped support/updates and then disabled the app. I did get 10 good years out of it. So cannot call it BS.

Hyundai Blue Link is free for 3 years and then requires a $10 monthly fee for things like remote start, navigation, remote lock/unlock, etc.

Hopefully people will not pay this garbage and instead buy from a manufacturer that includes it.

Didn't know Ford was doing it with the Bronco.

Or is it all Sync 4 vehicles?

There is a thread on here where other manufacturers were doing this but I didn't know that Ford started to. No way I'm paying for something that has been free all along especially when there are other free options. Even if they're not free I'll pay someone else before I pay Ford (or any other manufacturer) for things that should be included in a 50K+ vehicle.

Nickel and dime everything!!! I swear anything "tech" starts to get a monthly fee nowadays. TV and radio back in the day were free (still pretty much are...for now) but internet, cable, cell, they all try and figure out a way to charge monthly. It's the free razor all over again. (For those that don't get the razor analogy: you get a free razor to start, but still have to buy the replacement razors):facepalm::(

Edit: Modern version of the razor blade....filters! Air, water, whatever....still have to buy those damn filters!!

Ah, this raises my hackles over our GE refrigerator!

Couple of years ago our Amana fridge stopped fridging.

Went and looked at new ones and found a nice GE with features we wanted so we bought it.

6 months later it starts warning about the water filter for the door water. When the time is up, the GE actually stops dispensing water and making ice.

Come to find out that you can't just use the generic water filters like everyone else, nope, you have to get the "authentic" GE filter that has an RFID tag on it at a cool cost of $50 each.

Sorry, I'm not paying $100 a year for the "privilege" of owning a GE.

It came with a bypass filter to use if you didn't have a replacement handy, so I cut up the bypass and grabbed the RFID out of it and taped it into the fridge permanently.

Now I get a warning of "Not Filtered" whenever I use it but I change the filters every 6 months with the much more reasonable generic filters.

Screw you GE. I will NEVER buy another of your products.

When my wife bought her 2015 Escape titanium new Sync was a fee. Then a few years later Ford made it free. Now they might be regressing back to fee again. If enough people don’t bite like @AzScorpion said they will make it free.

I remember when everyone hated cable companies because they were ripping them off. Everyone wanted to get rid of cable. Now every channel is going to be an app with a fee. Pretty soon when everyone figures out how much their 12 streaming services cost they'll be going back to cable.

Hyundai went to 3 yrs free after having difficulties with people such as I who wouldn't pay their inflated fees - I thought there are different levels of Bluelink and you could spend as much as $400 annually . Offering it free for 3 yrs gets people used to it and many then pony up the fees. Whether it's $10 or $40 per month I'm not a buyer, and not interested in owning another Hyundai going forward.

I just cut my cord - or more accurately my Dish subscription, used to be able to switch from Comcast, Dish , Direct TV every 2 yrs to take advantage of new subscriber rates but that became more difficult . Cable companies do rip people off, I sold many millions of IT gear and services to Dish and many of their employees hated working for them, Charlie Ergen is only worth ~ $10B and is known to be ruthless. At least for know I'm happy to be streaming. At one time Dish was rated the worst company to work for - then they somewhat cleaned up their act but stayed in the top 10 worst. They hired a high level person to clean up their image and I distinctly recall him saying the employees had to be all wrong as he personally had worked for several worse companies, what a gem of a hire.
