Not a DIY guy myself, unfortunately. I'm around Sacramento area and only found 2 truck shops that do lifts/mods, etc. For something that's supposed to be a 2 hour job inc alignment, the shops are quoting me $350+ just to put a level kit on (and alignment). And this is for labor only. I already have the 1" front spacers in my possession.

Is this the going rate for level kit installs? Those that got it done at 3rd party shops, how much did yall pay?

TIA!
My Ford dealer quoted me $699 to instal a level. I said no thanks. Waiting for nice weather and have my two boys come over and help me do it.

My dealer charged me $500 for my level. For dealer prices I thought that was good. It included the alignment and retightening 300 miles later.

I've also had enough times where I cheaped out at smaller shops and ended up paying more to fix their screw ups, so I don't mind paying a little more if I'm confident they know what they are doing. Some dealers are terrible though, but so far I've been happy with mine.
Does that include the kit?

I wonder if they will use ford rewards for this.

I just went to a local 4x4 shop last Friday and they quoted me $800 for a Rough Country level kit, installation and alignment. After I picked my jaw off the ground I asked how much for the level kit and he said $100. So they want $700 just for install and alignment,

I called a local shop here in CO and was quoted $780 for install and alignment only, no gear.....I think you are getting a fair price. Like most I can do it myself but don't mind paying someone if it saves me some time and I feel its reasonable. In this case I'll do it myself.

I think I paid $600 to install and align at Ford dealer. I used my rewards, so it only cost $200 or so.

My dealership told me it was $200 for the kit, $300 for labor. But I got it free or else no deal on the sale.
Only thing is they didn't adjust the headlights, which is easy enough to do.

CAPITALISM;

What is capitalism in simple words?

Capitalism is often thought of as an economic system in which private actors own and control property in accord with their interests, and demand and supply freely set prices in markets in a way that can serve the best interests of society. The essential feature of capitalism is the motive to make a profit.

I'm sure most of these shops have enough work coming into the door, paying the price they set, that very few care about the penny pinchers looking for a bargain.
True capitalism would have prices adjusting based on demand and supply. Unfortunately it's not the case even in US and even less in Europe.

What you fail to note is that the government is leaching in on every step:

1) The purchaser of the job gets compensation from his work to obtain the money for the purchase. But government takes it's cut.

2) The car shop performs the job and gets paid by the purchaser. But government takes it's cut.

3) The shop pays it's employee to do the actual installation. But government takes it's cut.

4) The shop buys the product from the distributor. But government takes it's cut.

5) The distributor buys the product from the manufacturer. But government takes it's cut.

6) The distributor and manufacturer pays for people to manufacture and move the part. But government takes it's cut.

So in essence the capitalism is broken and the inflation or deflation of the parts and labor is in reality, mandated by the government, not the demand. In the actual demi-capitalism, the demand and supply create only a frame upon which government mandates the price.

Easy exercise for you: How many hours of your work would you need to do in order to buy one hour of your work? How has the ratio changed in each decade since 70's?

That's outrageous. That's at least 50% more than the Denver metro. I'm betting you can find a better price elsewhere.

Try 4 Wheel Parts off of Peoria and I-70 in Denver if you're willing to drive. I'm betting you'll get a much better deal. Unless I'm totally off base in this new world we live in now.

Taxed at every step? Is that what VAT is?
We don't do that in the states, at least in my state. I work for a fabricator building power and pumping units. We are tax exempt for material and parts purchased for the project, but the final customer pays sales tax. Our business does pay taxes on earnings.

The decision to do my own work or not is greatly influenced by the fact I have no garage. Lugging tools back and forth to the driveway is not fun. And not every day is a nice day. A job gone wrong could see the vehicle sitting there in whatever weather while I am forced to drive the wife's car and hear her bitching about it till I get my vehicle fixed. Hell, she complains if she has to pick me up from the dealership!
